Our wedding is in 55 days. We're meeting to do a walk through w/florist next week.
I'd like to find an alternative to only cut flowers for my reception (for the cocktail we're doing floating flowers). Marcella's feather's are beautiful, but wouldn't fit the style of our daytime garden wedding-same reason candles alone don't work for me.
So, we're thinking fruit bowls interspersed with flowers, living plants or some other option, but I haven't seen any good pics (saw one on the centerpiece thread but it looked like a fall collection). Maybe Glass bowls filled with water with thin slices of lemons and limes floating on top?
Anyone seen ANYTHING that would keep us from having centerpieces that eventually get thrown away? We're trying to conserve

The orchids are nice~ ! I'm using bright color flowers, purples, blues, hot pinks, etc. Ivy topiaries don't do it for me with our very gatsbyish style, the orchids do though! Also, I'd love pics of fruit bowls studded with flowers. Thanks everyone. If anyone has more ideas or websites I'd really appreciate it!

JulyBride,
I am looking for a picture but can't find it yet. My friend who had a daytime wedding had a small round bowls (she got them at 99c) and they bought little gold fishes( they are very cheap as well) that were swimming in them. It loocled so pretty. Some people took them home, the rest they let go into the bay that was close by. They also didn't know what to do because candles look out of place day time but this was something different and really original.

My sister had goldfish in bowls. Very cute. She got a lot of compliments...HOWEVER, by the end of the night our friends were eating them.

I love those fruit bowls! I wish I could find something with purples though. Our colors are steel blue and purple (Ok, we don't really have colors, but the dresses are steel blue and the flowers are bright purples, blues and pinks). Where did you find those pics Meghan?

I just started working with a floral designer and we're creating a centerpiece for an event this weekend. Its wheatgrass (live) with a few gerber daisies stuck in. The daisies are cut flowers, but in the grass they give the impression of a garden.
Its a pretty cool effect and perfect for a daytime garden wedding. Its inexpensive and fits your style of conservation since the grass is living.

another suggestion is cut bamboo - its still living and still grows once cut (and can be replanted or just kept in water after your wedding). It can make some really interesting centerpieces and is very ecological since its so abundant and grows so quickly.

You can set up your seating chart like this:

I heard of something not as funky as me and marcellas feathers that was a small manequin type dress stand (basically a body without a head) with a bridal dress on as the centerpiece if that makes any sense, sounded pretty cool to me.
You could also use your favors stacked like a cake or something.
You could do a plant or small tree accented with childhood/family/dating photos.
