Centerpiece help!!

Centerpiece help!!

So i have decided on floating candles in big vases for my centerpieces.

They are very similar to this,, except i bought them from ikea:
http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/bevfabriccrafts_1992_116173575

We were going to put glass beads in the bottom, and use a green glow stick (green and ivory are my colors) and the glow stick was going to illuminate the gems and then there would be a few floating candles in the top of it.

I am having a tough time trying to keep the costs down on these. The gems i have found, either come in a small bag from the dollar store and i would need at least 3 or 4 of them just to get a good amount on the bottom to cover the glow stick. Or i have found a larger bag at Michael's for 7 bucks. I would need about 2 bags as well if i were to go with them.

So my dilema is obviously the cost of the beads. Does anyone have any ideas?

I was also going to take some styrafoam from the craft store and put that on the bottom and then put the gems on top, this way i can stick the glow stick in the styrafoam and i wouldnt need as many gems to cover it up with and then i would just wrap the bottom of the glass with ribbon so you wouldnt see the styrafoam. I then realized that is probably more trouble than it is worth. :(

Thanks for any help!

how about scrunching up celephane or seranwrap in the bottom and placing the glass around that...it'll be clear so you don't see it

Ok you may think I'm crazy, but I have an idea for you.

Fill the vase with green jello - that's sooo cheap to maker and mash up the jello or cut jello in chunks and put into vase than burry the glowstick within the jellow and put water ontop for candles to float.

Or, instead of the glow stick - do a google search for flora lights <-- its' the tiny lights they put in the floral centerpeices.

I really love the jello idea lol I am also having trouble trying to figure out how i am going to get all of that together...Right now i only have 2 hours before reception to get the place set up. I wont be able to do it b/c i will be taking pictures, so i need to find someone to help me out and to make it easy for them to set up.

I will definitely keep the Jello idea in mind. Thank you!

Re: Centerpiece help!!

I have used a polymer for many parties. It is a bead when soaked turns into a gel. Here is one website that sells it. A little goes a long way.

You could dye it with food coloring or buy battery run tea lights that come with different color bulbs. http://www.batteryoperatedcandles.net/everlasting-led-p-tea-lights.html?gclid=CJH76-LLkZICFQ7GGgodwXGp-g

To swell the polymer I bought a styrofoam food chest. If you need more details FM me.
Hope this helped

also have you looked into cracked ice? they sell it at ac moore and michaels. you add water and it creates the look of cracked ice. you can even dye it with food coloring. one bag creates 2.5 gallons of ice. check it out. i think its only like $5 a bag

cracked ice is the same as the polymer so go for the one that is the cheapest
