question.. i'm trying to keep costs down and i'm not sure i see the point in the centerpiece.. i went to three weddings last year and i dont' remember a centerpiece at any of them.. could be that i wasn't a bride to be so i didn't know to look for it.... but at any rate.. i def don't want to spend $55 a table for CP.. i'm not sure i want to spend $30 a table for CP.. (we're gonna have bout 20 tables..)
do you HAVE to have CP's? anyone know of a wedding that didnt?
can you rent them if they are a MUST HAVE?

IMO, I think they're a 'must have'. I think the table would look weird w/o a centerpiece. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant, it can be a grouping of candles with rose petals on the table.

Re: centerpiece issues..
i don't think centerpieces are absolutely necessary...i've been to weddings where there were no centerpieces..and people actually welcomed the extra room on the table below are some ideas i've posted in other threads...
you can also use blooming teas..buy a few glass teapots, people can drink tea during the reception and later take them home as favors
i really like this idea...i'm sure you could do it for less $$...Zen Trays courtesy of Weddingbee.
It's filled with stones and has floating candles (cost her about $35-45 to make)...
and another from brides.com that's just apples and cranberries
i thought it was really pretty, simple, and cost-effective

I think its a 'must have' too but just because the table would seem bland with nothing but dinnerware on it. But I also agree that you shouldn't have to spend so much money on them. Look around at some cp threads b/c you'll be able to find ideas that do not involve so many expensive flowers but different, more affordable ideas. I like the pics from the above post. Get some inspiration!

I welcome extra room on tables, but I do think it is a must-have. I really prefer smaller, simpler things though. Go to a dollar store or something, pick up some simple plates/trays and some pillar candles. put the pillar candle on the tray and sprinkle flower petal, or colored stones, or confetti around to make it more festive. Or you could do oone small dish with a floating candle, a bud vase with one pretty flower coming out of it, and you can even surround it with tealight candles (about a buck for a bag of 30 at AC Moore when they are on sale) It doesn't have to be big and extravagant and expensive, just something simple to kind of tie the whole table together.
Or: Photo in a frame some sprinkled sand and seashells for a beachy wedding basket of fruit favors piled nicely a cake for each table a mini-candy-bar per table (Instead of a big one) tall taper candles in nice candle holders...
pretty much anything can be made really nicely and much more inexpensive than big elaborate CPs

I happen to like centerpieces and there are so many different things you can do!
how about a nice pillar candle in a hurricane glass (both inexpensive at the craft store) You can also get those glass marbles to put in the hurricane to add soemthing to it) Get some rose petals and sprinkle them around the outside of the glass. Ta-Da! Instant (and beautiful!!) centerpiece!

Talk to your hall. Some halls actually might have somthing like candle holder and you only have to supply the candles. Speak to different florists. They should be able to work with you. Using petals also in addition to a small low centerpiece helps to add color to the table without the expense.

I did something similar for my e-party, except I did sand with shells and it cost me less than $4 to do each one. You could definitley make them yourself for under $30 each.

Re: centerpiece issues..
buy some cheap candles and use those instead. Or float candles in a bowl. This can be done very cheaply!

Re: centerpiece issues..
i think you should have CPs. Flower CPs, however, are NOT a must have no matter what ppl tell you. My sister had a HUGE overdone elegant wedding and says if she had to cut anything, first thing to go would have been her huge floral CPs- they are, sorry to be blunt, a waste of money (unless you have money to throw around I guess, more power to ya) bc...well they die a few days later. This being said, you can do so many unique, different things for a CP- w/ votives, petals, etc. You can def DIY and have it look great and save a ton of money. And ppl will be able to take them home and have them last and not die in a few days. JMO!!

I mean, I never went to a wedding that didnt have them. The small/short CP are less expensive than the taller CP.

Re: centerpiece issues..
I think some sort of table decoration is necessary... could be candles, votives, a potted plant (much less costly than a floral arrangement), or a favor arrangement (as suggested above)....
otherwise, the room may tend to look 'unfinished' IMO....

Not sure if you've been on the '08 board but failurebydsign just posted this cool website where you can buy floating candle centerpieces...
here are a few (price depends on how many you buy)--the kit includes everything you see in the picture!
$26.01 - $28.90
$26.10-$29

Re: centerpiece issues..
This is the CP idea of another LI bride (GinaZ) That i am conisdering using for my own wedding with ehr permission :) if our wheatgrass doesn't work out. I bougth some stuff at Dollartree to test it out and for each CP it would probably cost me less than 15 bucks for the glass and candlse and a fex extra to add flowers. maybe 20? We are going to sue less candles if we go this route and less containers because we want to give our guests room to have their plates, silverware and handbags without fighting over that last square inch!

Would you mind my asking where you found the large vases in the center?

Re: centerpiece issues..
Ask your RH or your florist if they rent out candalabras for the tables. That was an option at two of the ones I went to see, of course cannot remember which ones. Scatter some rose petals around the bottoms.....

I agree that a CP is a must have...but again it doesn't have to be expensive flowers. You could do votives or something that still looks amazing, but might be more cost effective!!

I think they are a must have also, but you can definately keep it under $30. Try walmart or target - they have cute candle tiered candle sets or flowing votive bowls you can put rose petals in with the candle for under $20.
