Centerpiece Ideas
Candles
Candles make a very inexpensive table centerpiece and can add romance and elegance to any reception. You can try arranging several candles of varying heights together to form your centerpiece. Be sure to use colored candles that fit in with your color theme.

Small Potted Plants
You can check out your local nursery to find attractive potted plants or flowers to match your wedding colors and decor. You can often find potted plants for as little as $5.00 a piece.

Bridesmaids Bouquets
You could even use the bridesmaids’ bouquets as the centerpiece for your tables. It gets the bouquets out of the way and they are so beautiful to look at.

Hurricane Lamp
For a single candle use a hurricane lamp. They can be rented very inexpensively from your florist or other supply store. Add some greenery around the base, or silk or perhaps even freshly cut flowers to decorate the lamps.

Helium Balloons
Balloons make a festive centerpiece for a more informal wedding.

Fresh Cut Flowers
Buy fresh cut flowers from a flower wholesaler or market. You don’t have to be an expert floral designer either -- for instance, six fresh cut tulips or white roses look beautiful when simply placed in a small vase. This is a very simple, elegant and inexpensive way to have a floral centerpiece. For more on creating your own flower arrangement, click here.

Favors that Double as Centerpieces
You could also use your favors as your centerpiece. This is referred to as a 'break away' centerpiece. Simply arrange your favors nicely in the center of the table. Round, flat mirrors can be used as a base to place the favors on. The favors can be boxes of candy, motive candles, tiny potted plants, miniature bells, dried flowers...

Food Centerpieces
Decorative wicker baskets with ribbon and/or material and put homemade bread or muffins inside. Or use a cheese board with cheese and crackers and garnish with fresh fruit or olives and peppers.

Floating Candles
Take miniature candles and float them in a large bowl filled with water. You can also add a few flower or rose petals in the water.

Candles and Mirrors
Place a clear candle holder with a candle (matching your color scheme) on top of a small round mirror. Decorate with ivy and flowers.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Wedding Centerpiece 1. Place a large amount of rock salt on the center of the table. Place neutral colored candles in varying sizes, from pillars to tea lights, in the rock salt. Keep lit the entire reception for a simply elegant look.

Unique Wedding Centerpiece 2. To enhance an Asian-themed reception use large, clear, square shaped bowls filled with smooth rocks, a small amount of distilled water and three to four pieces of bamboo in varying heights.

Unique Wedding Centerpiece 3. To create a stunning look fill a large vase or bowl with distilled water and a large floater candle. Use coordinating flower petals to place around the outside of the vase or bowl.

Unique Wedding Centerpiece 4. My favorite idea for a rectangular table centerpiece is to take an inexpensive bedroom door mirror and place it down in the center of the table. You can paint to sides of the mirror to coordinate with your wedding colors. Place large and small candles in the same color on the mirror. Sprinkle silver or gold confetti on the mirror once the candles are in place. The effect is both, eye-popping and dramatic. I have used this numerous times on my coffee table at cocktail parties. It’s always a big hit with my guests!

Re: centerpieces

I don't have any pics, but there are plenty of things you can use besides flowers.

Candles are the most popular alternative to flowers. They are obviously more affordable and they also cast a romatic glow that flowers just won't give you.

You can also rent or buy some affordable candelabras for each table and attach 2-3 larger flowers like hydrangeas, peonies or cabbage roses and tie them to the middle section of the stand with some Chiffon fabric. You don't need a large assortment of flowers and you can incorporate both flowers and candles.

If you are having a theme wedding like a beach theme for example, you can buy some Starfish in bulk (search on E-Bay), attach to a wire stand or something similar, and surround the base with seashells and/or rose petals. You can also use sea horses which are a very unique and beautiful addition to beach themed centerpieces.

I've known several brides who have used photos as their centerpieces. One woman used pictures of all the couples in her family and placed them in picture frames at each table, with a short note telling of their love story and how they've affected their lives. She surrounded each picture frame with votive vandles.

You can also use a limited amount of flowers and make centerpieces yourself which is very inexpensive. Get some very tall, thin glass vases and fill them with colorful stones at the bottom (incorporating your wedding colors). Both stones and vases can be bought in bulk at IKEA. Fill the vase with water and put in one Calla lily in the center. Callas have very thick stems and will fit beautifully in a thin vase. You can also put some votive candles around the base for an added effect.

You can also your favors as a unique centerpiece. Strategically place your favor boxes in a pile on top of a unique tray or stand and surround them with colorful paper, rose petals or stones. At the end of the evening, invite everyone to take one favor box from the center home with them.

Another idea is to make words, places, or books a centerpiece. For example, make a large print of a place you've been to with your FH (such as Mexico or Hawaii) in a nice colored font and underneath write a short story of a funny memory from your trip or whether it was your first time there and it was when you both said 'I Love You', etc.

As you can see, there are a lot of alternatives to flowers that can be just as beautiful and sometimes even more meaningful (sorry for the long post).

I hope this helps.
