At the wedding I was just at they passed a dollar bill around and when the DJ stopped the music the person with the dollar kept the centerpiece... and the dollar! I wasn't too keen on it.
Another is placing a bowl on the table with folded paper and #'s on them. At some point they would pass the bowl around, grab a #, and do a lottery type thing.
You could do a lets make a deal. The first person from each table that bring me a yellow flower wins the centerpiece. The first person from each table that has a piece of chewing gum.. and so on.
I know what you mean- it's kind of tough. I am giving away the centerpiece (which is not flowers) and a silver easle that a picture frame can be put on (BBB $15.00 each) and a little picture frame.

Re: Centerpieces....
Just be sure to make an annoucement...at FHs cousin's wedding they did not make an announcement and hardly anyone took the CPs home! The bride was really upset because she wanted people to take it but didnt want to play a game - just make sure people know it is OK to take them

Re: Centerpieces....
At mine, people just asked me if they could take them and they did.
