Centerpieces

Centerpieces

I hate the thought of spending $100 on a floral centerpiece that will die in a week. I know, they do look gorgeous, but I am just not a flower person.

So, I was thinking not doing floral centerpieces at all. However, when I was at the bridal extravaganza, there was one vendor that had a small centerpiece with fake flowers and a ribbon around it (i actually thought the flowers were real). She said it would probably be only $10-15 for each one. I then wondered if I could make it myself.

I just have a few questions for you girls:
1) Are fake flowers tacky? (I would def. do my best to display them nicely with ribbons, not just have them thrown together). Are DIY centerpieces in general tacky?

2) What else can I do for a centerpiece that isn't floral? I've seen fish before & i think thats cute but im afraid one might die and we'd have a dead fish- not cute! I'd really like something that people can home that will last!

3) What type of centerpiece are you doing? What ones have you seen that you like?

I know its early, but I love being crafty and want to start looking around ASAP!! I'm not really big into candles either, but I may use a few along with a centerpiece! Pictures are always helpful too.

Thanks sooo much in advance!

Re: Centerpieces

what about fruit bouquets or chocolate covered strawberries? dip them in white or colored chocolate, and use them to make a small tree type centerpiece, and then people can use them as favors as well and take some home?

Otherwise, if you use good quality faux florals, who will notice? I have thought about it as well, I have seen some on here that were very well done, and I would never have known they were not live flowers

If I was having a summer wedding..I would take oranges and lemons and make centerpieces out of them! I have seen them cut up in glass vases filled with water...and I think they look really pretty! Because we are having a wedding in the winter...I am going to use crystal branches and make somthing out of them! I might hang snowflakes on them or have candles at the bottom...Im not sure yet, but $100 centerpieces are not for me!

Not sure if this would be your taste, but something I am doing for our engagement party is Moroccan style lanterns with rose petals & votives surrounding the lantern. Also we figure we will give them out as well at the end of the party.

I am having my engagement party @ a lounge in Brooklyn which is very plush/velvety so this fit right in already with the decor. Not sure what type of place you have in mind for your reception.

They have larger lanterns than the one I bought, if you just google moroccan lanterns. Also of course you can get them in a lot of different colors.

Personally I do not care for fake flowers but that is just my opinion.

I was considering the edible ones, however the only ones I know of are edible arrangements are those are kinda pricey. Anyone know of any other ones?

Keep the ideas coming girls- they're great! Thanks!!

This is the only place I know to get them: http://www.ediblearrangements.com and the cheapest is around $50-60!!

I liked your idea with the fruit. I actually saw something done at the JT Bridal Showcase with lemons in a long cylinder that I thought was really nice- and it would go with my tropical colors theme. However, now that you mentioned it, limes and oranges too would make it more colorful.

Re: Centerpieces

How about a hurricane candle holder in the middle of the table with maybe marbles or rocks inside the holder and small candles all around the hurricane candle.

I think DIY are very good if you are creative, Im not and I really wish I was cause it would save me soo much money, Im glad we have 2 years to prepare cause I know Im gonna try to create some stuff I'll need for the wedding

yea im totally not crafty...maybe if u google 'unique centerpieces' or something ..u'll see something u like? ive only been to 3 weddings my whole life... no1 really cares about the centerpieces. or at least i didnt hear ppl say anything.

im going to spend more $ in food than anything else... im sure a v-hour will be remembered more than centerpieces..

oooooooooo u cann get a fishbowl type of glass thing and get floating candles? that will look pretty

im just not a fan of fake flowers.. even though they cost $ and a lot of time to put together , ppl will think its the cheap way out cuz they dont know any better.. Just my honest opinion

Re: Centerpieces

have you checked the Martha Stewart tissue paper flowers at Michaels? They are absolutely beautiful, and would give the look of flowers without paying for the cost of flowers

I dont think fake flowers would look bad... I think thats an awesome idea ... and yes, spending over 100 per CP is redic... thats why i decided to go the way im going and spend $300 tops..

You could buy hurricane vases (ebay has some great bulk prices') fill them up with sand and throw seashells or starfish in there to go with a beachy theme- you can also fill up vases with water and add some type of floating item (I know they have floating candles for instance but since yuo arent too big on candles im sure they must have other things that float too- check out oriental trading or just do a search)
DIY projects are great and honestly nobody even knows the difference!! Ive done a lot of things for my wedding and ive received only compliments!!!! good luck!

I just took a look at our DIY album and all I can say is WOW: I love the flower girl baskets so cute.
Did you make all of the programs by hand? Or did you use the computer? I really like them!

theres this website, wedding-candles.ca
they have all different candelabra centerpieces that look like they cost a fortune but really dont. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be ordering from them myself.
