Centerpieces-How are you giving them away?

Centerpieces-How are you giving them away?

Anyone have any interesting ideas as how to best give away the centerpieces? I don't want to see anyone fighting over them (which I have seen at other weddings), but am not sure which way to give them out. I've heard of people giving them to the person who traveled the fartherst to get to the wedding, the person who's birthday is closest to the wedding date, etc.

Any thoughts?

I was at a wedding where they took a dollar from someone and played a song and they stopped it and whoever had the dollar had to do something (like Hot Potato), like kiss the person next to them. Then they passed the dollar around again to a song and repeated the process and made that person do something funny. The last round they had everyone who had the dollar at every table come out to the middle of the dance floor and do their best James Brown impression then they wound up giving the centerpiece to the person to the LEFT of the person who made the fool out of themself. It was pretty funny but you could do any variation of that but this was the most different!

I don't like the hot potatoe thing. I will announce that the couple at the table who's been married the longest gets the centerpiece.

i was at a wedding once where the bride and groom picked the person at everytable to take it home and stood at the front and actully said a small thank you to them like for ex. the woman who helped them find their new home.. the couple that introduce them, the couple that traveled the farthest, the person who helped them pick their wedding reception location, ect...it was really nice..

I was at a wedding where they put something under one of the plates. If you sat in that seat, you got the centerpiece!

I like the idea of giving it to the person whos birthday is closest to your wedding date...kind of like a birthday present to them.

I had thought of giving it to the couple at each table who has been married the longest but what about the table with all my college friends...none of them are married yet?

I like the idea of the longest couple, but my mother would kill me, b/c she is sitting with her siblings and is the youngest! SHE WANTS THAT CENTERPIECE!!..

SO I am doing the person with the closest b-day (mom's is 9 days after the wedding - I hope noone comes any closer than that)

I was at a wedding with the hot potato...it was ok...I had to go up and I felt foolish (it was fh's friend) but in the end the person who took out the dollar got the centerpiece (fh gave the dollar!!)

Thanks for the ideas! I like the hot potato idea, but maybe without the dancing part (I have an older crowd coming and I can hear them complaining about having to get up!). I'll ask my band leader what he likes to do, too.

I definitely agree that you need to find some way to give out the centerpieces. My mom and her friends would always check the chairs and such to see if they could figure out how to win them. And at a wedding we attended in December, everyone was confused over whether they could take the centerpieces at the end of the night .. and when we found out we could, people were scrambling because they were that beautiful .. not flowers, but a decorative base, with candles and rocks on a pretty glass plate.

Anyway, we did the 'hot potato' style for the giveaway of our centerpieces. We didn't want to make a big production out of it, because we had so many other things going on that night. So, our DJ, Eddie of Parameters, just played a round of music, and when the music stopped, whoever was sitting to the left (or right .. I forget) of the person holding the spoon was the winner. Even though we kept it simple, people had so much fun .. it was among the more memorable parts of our night.

We did the 'Anniversary Dance' where all the married couples get on the dance floor, and little by little, couples are eliminated until the longest married couple is left. We honored them with my bouquet.

I'm doing a variation of the hot potato and chair thing...my mom bought lotto tickets and our maitre d' is putting them under a chair of each table. Our band will ask the guests to check their chair and the lotto ticket will be in an envelope...then they will pass it around 'hot potato' style and the person to the left will get the center piece, the person to the right will get the picture frame (which I bought for table numbers) and the person with the envelope gets the lotto ticket...win, win, win situation!

I don't want any 'games' (sorry, can't think of a better word) played at my wedding - so whoever grabs it first will have ours. Im sure the older ladies will lay claim to the centerpieces while the men and the younger people wouldn't even think of such a thing.

I will probably ask someone to keep one for me (the vase) so I can it as a keepsake - the rest are up for grabs.

I was thinking about putting a little card on the centerpiece for the couple who has been together the longest at the table. And then just making an announcement to check the card to see who our inspiration is

I just read this somewhere else and thought it was a good idea, although too late for me. A bride tracked her responses as they came in and the first person to respond at each table got to take home the centerpiece. It might be a lot of work, but a creative solution!
