We saw a house today that had central ac but the house only had a 100amps. Is this something that must be upgraded immediately, will it cause lots of problems?

Re: Central A/C
yes you will not be able to run too many things with 100 amps. did you test the ac to see if it works usually they are put in and then the amps are upgraded.

Re: Central A/C
If you go see the house again, put on the ac..if you can plug a blow dryer in and not throw a breaker, you should be ok. I don't know how you are going to get that done, but blow dryers pull a ton of electricty. I can blow dry my hair with the ac on in my house. I don't have central air and I have 100 amps.

having central air and having ac units are different. central air requires a certain amount of amps. I could call up a central air company and ask a general question about amps required.

Most companies that install central air will make sure the amps meet minimum requirements before installation. You may want to ask the owners of the house and ask them who installed it.
If a reputable company installed the units, then you can follow up with them. If they did it themselves, you may want to consult an electrician.
