Re: Central Islip S.D
I grew up in CI.......but I didn't go to the public schools there. I was sent to Catholic school. My mother currently works for the school district and she definately would not recommend it.

I live in a Condo in C.I. now but we plan to move before our children (none now, but in the future) go to school.
As with every district, though, the good kids will do well, it's the kids who need some extra help or support that make you want a better district.

if you are referring to those students that behavorial issues then i agree w/ your, 'make you want a better disctrict' statement but if you are basing it solely on academics then i would disagree.
northport SD (highly ranked and desireable) has a very active LD/ Special Ed Program and studies have shown both reg ed and special ed (inclusion classes) postively benefit from their inclusion programs
ETA - i don't have statistical data as to why CI ranks poorly but i would say that a lot has to do w/ the fact that the parents are not all that involved in their children's education, the teachers probably spend a good deal of time dicsipling the studetns and there are neagtive external influences that inhibit their motivation

I think in districts where more time and attention from teachers must be spent on correcting behavioral issues, even the best students suffer as a result...
