Ceremony and Reception Hall

Original post by MET

Hi!! I was wondering if anybody can recommend a place for both ceremony and reception. My fiance and I are grad/med students and have a very small budget. We are trying to stay under 15,000 total, not including honeymoon. According to the budgeting software, that gives us 7500 for recetion and ceremony. His parents can't afford to help, and my only family is my younger sister, so no help there. We are looking to have 75-90 people or so. I want a NYC theme wedding, so somewhere in NYC with a city feel and skyline would be nice. BUT I realize this isn't always possible within my budget, so I am willing to consider other places also.

Are there places I can check out, or am I just being delusional with my budget? I would rather not have to elope, but the prices in the city are really scaring me! Please help!!

when and if you call, say 2,000 not 4,000. the lower the price the better.

Try Douglaston Manor...they are on a golf course and you can see the manhattan skyline at night from the patio.

FM me for details.

Oh try the Metropolitan in Glen Cove, it's got a very posh NYC feel and if you go towards a less busy night/season that will save you money too.

Good luck! planning a wedding and being in med school is brave, you got all the girls here to help you out though

I concur.. the metropolitan was so much a NYC feel I couldn't even try it with my country boy FH...I liked it though! and a beauiful set up for ceremony, floral/garden picture site set up for you by the RH around the block!!

Thank you SO MUCH for all of your replies. I am in the process of checking out ALL of these places. Since it's in 2010, I do have time to look around, though I want to try to book as early as possible for the low rate . But all of the suggestions have been REALLY helpful. Please keep them coming.

Thank you. This is such a sweet thing to say. When I first signed on here, I never expected so much help and support from a 'wedding website' either, but you have all been awesome, and I really appreciate that. Besides from the $ issue (or rather the lack there of ), I also know finding time is going to be difficult. I don't have a mom to help, I can't afford a wedding planner, my only sister lives 5 hours away, his only sister lives 10 hours away, my best friend lives 4 hours away. Those 3 (my sister, his sister, and my best friend) are also my BM, and they all live out of town LOL. Believe me, I have thought of eloping LOL, but I have this instinct that I am going to really regret it if I do. So FH and I are just going to do our best and hope that all turns out well.

YOu can try 3 West Club. They have a small room on the top floor that has a roof terrace. It over looks 5th ave & 51st st and St. Patrick's Cathedral and only 1 block from Rockefeller Center. If you do a day wedding during the week, the prices will be considerably lower.

The Roof Terrace

The Solarium

You can also try the Alger House, they start at $90 for a Sunday wedding.

Try The Riviera in Massapequa. Also keep in mind Thursday night weddings are cheaper as well as day time. Off season is cheaper but, in my case I got a Thursday night in August for even cheaper!!!!
Also try The coral Hose and Stewart Manor CC

Re: Ceremony and Reception Hall

Thank you again for all of the suggestions. I am checking all of these places out. I have emailed them, and will probably talk to them soon. Just to answer a few questions:

1. What is my vision? Well, I wanted something modern, trendy, unique that also reflects our love for NYC. I am not a very traditional person. I want to see my fiance before the ceremony - just a private moment with him before the busy day rolls around. I am not doing either toss at the reception. I am walking myself down the aisle (well, I don't have a dad, so no choice there, but still), etc. I am also as far from a princess as they come lol, so I have given up trying to be one since I was 10. I will probably be looking for wedding gowns without a big ball gown or royalty feeling, just modern, sleek, and elegant. Well, I am also a small 5'1-5'2, so a ballgown would drown me out. If it's something I can dye into a different color and wear again later, great! And no big tiara either. I love the busy and fast pace of the city. I am always on the go. I love the diversity of people and variety of food lol. I thought about doing a multi-ethnic reception, if I can find someone to cater it for cheap lol. I am ok without the grand ballroom and the chandelier. I do love the outdoor, though having a wedding outdoor maybe too stressful for me, because I would be worried about the weather to death. (Yes, I am a worry freak lol). I will probably try to take pictures outdoor if at all possible though.

2. Yes, non-Saturday is Ok with me. Sunday and Friday are perfectly fine. Tuesday may be pushing it lol.

3. I keep going back and forth about being inside or outside of manhattan. I don't want to go so far out that my friends will have to leave the reception early to get back home, as they all live in manhattan. But outside of manhattan, I can more easily find the affordable hotel options for my out of town guests. So I am not sure.

4. I am cutting every corner I can. We are doing ceremony and reception at the same place. We are having a family friend officiate, etc. etc. But I also don't want my guests to come all the way to my wedding and not have a good time.

Once again, thank you SO MUCH for your advice and input. I will check everything out. In the meanwhile, I will answer any more questions you may have. Or, if I missed a question, please just let you know. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You guys are great!

Douglaston Manor has a package for everything, and it is very affordable. It's really nice for an outdoor ceremony...it overlooks a golf course, and it has a view of the NYC skyline.

FM me if you would like more info

This may be a long shot, but my sweet sixteen (many moons ago) was at a restaurant called Water's Edge. It does have the city skyline, but I have NO IDEA about pricing.
