Ceremony at Hall - Receiving Line Protocol??
For you brides having your ceremony at the hall, immediately followed by cocktail hour, how do you handle the receiving line since you're not going 'out' anywhere?

We're not planning on having one either, we'll just go table to table during the reception.

I was very confused about this too when I was having the ceremony in the hall.. I knew FH wanted one cuz hes italian and thats just what they do.. and someone said to go outside and do it.. but thats weird plus its february... I was still stuck on that when we decided to do it in a church

Re: Ceremony at Hall - Receiving Line Protocol??
I think in a church you just stand in the vestibule if it's cold out. I've been to weddings when it's nasty out and that's what was done.franksbride - thank you for the tip. it's helpful coming from someone who's already done it (or not
) at the same place. I guess we'll have to forgo this.

Re: Ceremony at Hall - Receiving Line Protocol??
We plan on enjoying our cocktail hour with our guests...so right after the I Do's and Broom Jumping, we will march up the aisle followed by our parents and greet each guest as they leave the garden on their way up to the cocktail deck which is right above the garden and the deck is attatched to the ballroom....it flows for us....after a half hour of mingling with our guests, we'll disappear to the bridal suite and come back when it's time to announce us and offically open up our reception inviting our guests, etc....
WE DON'T TO MISS ANY PART OF OUR DAY!!!

Re: Ceremony at Hall - Receiving Line Protocol??
good idea charlotte. we're not taking our pics before but I really don't like too many posed pics anyway. Maybe this is something we can think about. thanks

Re: Ceremony at Hall - Receiving Line Protocol??
Another tip - we're taking all of our photos about 1-2 hours prior to guests arriving for the ceremony you know the formal shots, after that everything else is a candid, photojournalistic shot, my photographer knows not to bother me, period.

Re: Ceremony at Hall - Receiving Line Protocol??
You guys are all making good points. This is something that we just won't do. Takes too much time and the guests want to get on to the cocktail hour, not wait around to shake our hands in a formal line. Thanks!

Re: Ceremony at Hall - Receiving Line Protocol??
our maitre'd suggested doing a small one...just the bride and groom and maybe our parents as guest enter into the CH.....that way it's not a flood of people at the bar or buffet! We planned on using the CH for pictures anyway and I don't want to go around at the reception
