I was planning on having the ceremony at the RH, but FH doesn't want to see me before the cermony and we will not have enoght time during the cocktail hour for pictures. Now I am looking for a location so I can have an earlier ceremony, but many places can only hold 100 ppl and we are inviting 225 ppl to the wedding. Is it wrong if I only invite family and our closest friends to the ceremony? The ceremony would be a Friday afternoon and many people probably couldn't make it because of work.

Re: Ceremony Dilema X-POST FROM 2011
i think you should invite everyone to both the ceremony and the reception ... i agree that most people will probably not come to a ceremony on a friday afternoon though, but i wouldn't risk booking one of the smaller locations.

I think it would be perfectly fine, but if you want to invite everyone to both, is it possible to find an outdoor ceremony reception? Have you tried to see if there is a hotel nearby that can do the ceremony? I am having my reception at larkfield manor, and I am using the sheraton in hauppauge for my hotel because it is reletavely close by, maybe that is something that they can provide for you? Good Luck!

It is poor etiquette to invite people to the wedding reception but not the ceremony. I would try to find a location that can hold more people. One solution would be for you to take pictures with your family and BM before the ceremony and have your FH do the same. Then it would be fewer pictures to take after the ceremony and you could most likely take the majority of your your photos during the cocktail hour.

My other option is to send out invitations to my first 100 guest and ask them to RSVP to both the ceremony and reception. Once I get those answers and can send out the second batch. I would hate to not have my ceremony in a location I love just to only 100 ppl show up the day of. I still have to keep looking for locations. I want an outside ceremony.

Agree. It's kind of rude to tell people they can't come to the ceremony, but expect them to come to the reception and give a gift. Many people might not make it to the ceremony but you have to be prepared for everyone to.
