Ceremony Locations

Hello,

Im a new bride and need a little help. My wedding is in 15 months and I don’t have a location/officiant for my ceremony. I am Russian orthodox and I am having trouble with the priest. I want to get married in a church but I don’t think my priest is going to marry us. He feels we don’t attend church enough even though my fiancé and I currently live in Maryland.

Anyway any suggestions would be great. I would consider getting married in a different church (interfaith even) but I don’t know how to go about this.

Is this common? or are we the only couple our church wont marry....

Thanks

Re: Ceremony Locations

do you have the option of getting married in your hall?

have you visited the Vendors section on the top and looking up an interfaith officant...i know my officant could perform it cause she does everything. she was great...look on my profile for the name (she is the first name on officant list in vendor section)

Re: Ceremony Locations

The problem is that I really don’t want to get married in the hall. I want to have time between my ceremony and reception for pictures and my hall cannot accommodate that. The ceremony and reception would have to be back to back, and I would have to miss cocktail hour.

I was looking for an officiant that had a place of worship that we could get married in, but maybe that doesn’t exist.

Thanks for your help

Re: Ceremony Locations

There are some other Russian Orthodox Brides on here--or at least Eastern Orthodox...do a search and see what churches they are using.

Off the top of my head, I know there's a church in East Meadow (is that who you tried to use? Try talking to Father Alexander...) and out east somewhere. There's also always the big church in Brooklyn.

Do you know how to do a search on these boards? Look just above the typing screen--there's a button with a little circle...and I'd start with Russian Brides first. Good luck...and hope this helps!

Re: Ceremony Locations

Are you open to get married by an officiant and not the 'church'? You can always find a ceremony location and hire an officiant. The planting field arboretum has a beautiful mansion on premisis that accomodates ceremonies only.

Re: Ceremony Locations

Thanks!!!

I tried contacting a few orhtodox churches but a lot of them have masses in Greek, which neither I nor my family knows. I feel bad though going to another orthodox church behind the priest's back.

Are renting places for a ceremony expensive?
