Ceremony Music....

Ceremony Music....

FH's childood trumpet teacher will be playing at the ceremony. After listening to a CD he gave us, we liked Trumpet Voluntary the best. I can't seem to decide how to work it though. Should it be for my entrance or the bridal party? Here's what I am thinking:

Attendants Processional:
Trumpet Voluntary (organ & trumpet)

Bridal Processional:
Canon D (organ)
or
Here comes the bride (organ and trumpet)

Candle Lighting:
Ave Maria (organ and singer)

Recessional:
Wedding March.

My question is, do you think Canon D only sounds good with strings? Not sure if an organ can pull it off. Mom really loves the Here Comes the Bride tune which I am thinking may follow up better to Trumpet Voluntary.

So I can't seem to decide, what do you girls think? What are you doing?

well, i am not doing any traditional music....but it's refreshing to attend a wedding and hear something classic/traditional without hearing 'hear comes the bride'

good luck!!

I know I'm biased, but Cannon in D sounds awesome with strings....I used to play it in a string quartet for weddings when I was in high school. =) Playing it made me love it and I'm going to walk down the aisle to it.

HTH!!!

ETA: Oops! Didn't realize you said 'only' with strings! That's what I get for speed reading! I've heard versions of it done with flutes and trumpets and harps and they sound equally as beautiful. They sell CD's with just the Cannon in D done with different instruments. Check out amazon.com, they might have something like that on there.

I would go with Canon D, which yes, does sound great with just strings...but I'm biased, because that's what I walked down the aisle. Every time I hear it, I get teary eyed.

This is true. Hitler used it as he marched Jews to their death. I literally just found this out last week from a music teacher.

Hope I am not offending those who used or will use it, but apparently it is true.

Yes, and chances are very good you would NEVER hear this at a Jewish wedding. The person we dealt with when we hired our band said the only thing he would not play if we asked was Wagner's Bridal Chorus. My Rabbi would definately not have married us if we went with that piece of music. (I got married in a VERY orthodox ceremony).

Also, I don't mean to offend anyone and that's not my intention, but I actually find it to be somewhat cheesy wedding music. But that's just my opinion
