For those of you that are playing songs during your ceremony, are you using a DJ or playing a CD? So far, I just booked the DJ for the four hour reception. I'm wondering if I need a DJ to play for what 15 minutes out of that 30 minute ceremony, or if I can put together a CD myself. With that, I'm just worried about timing, etc. so I wanted to get everyone else's input on what they're doing. With using a DJ, I'm wondering what would my DJ do during cocktail hour since I can only have acoustic music then. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

I'm lucky in that I have a good friend who's an exceptional pianist. He will be playing for the ceremony as well as the cocktail hour. And The Metropolitan has two grand pianos at our disposal, so he doesn't have to lug his gear.
I'd say that if your DJ can help out, that's great, but I see nothing wrong in playing a CD, and having a special someone play 'DJ' for you.

Our initial plan was to have the DJ take care of the ceremony music and he also took care of the cocktail hr. I would speak to your DJ. In the end, I won the violinist prize from TWOTY so we ended up using that :)

We're getting a pianist and flute through our band. I really want a string quartet, but I can't justify the money for a 15 minute ceremony.

I hired a guitarist through my DJ for the ceremony, then the DJ is doing the cocktail hour and reception.

That's what I was thinking. I might have a friend DJ for the ceremony since I don't think I can have a DJ for CH so idk what the DJ would do during that time if he came for the ceremony.
