Okay so here is the situation. I have always dreamed of having a violin/cello duet or quartet to play a classical version of Here, There and Everywhere by the Beatles as my father walked me down the aisle. My aunt is helping me plan the wedding and she claims that I really should use classical music and that there is plenty of time for the Beatles at the reception. One of the major problems is we don't have a lot of money for a ceremony music. Her friend offered to play piano, and his wife will sing for free, but that means classical. HELP ME. Do I give up my dream for practicality or what?

Re: Ceremony Music... Help
Call the music departments at Stony Brook University, Queens College and CW Post and see if you can get students to do it. They will be just as good, if not better, than 'wedding' musicians and will work more with the price.

no-- I just spoke with my band leader to discuss ceremony music- and it more depends on the melody- do what YOU want.. by the way, the artists I am using in my ceremony:
Van Morrison The Beatles Depeche Mode Stevie Wonder
Classical, definitely not.

I just don't know how to get it acroos to her in a nice way that she understands and does not think that I am undermining her. It is her church that I am getting married in.

Nicely explain to her this is your wedding, and it is what you want. I wouldn't compromise on something so important to you.

EXACTLY. different brides have different priorities and you shouldn't need to compromise on the things that mean most to you!

You could say something like, 'I see where you are coming from, but Aunt XXXX this is something I always imagined and I don't want to look back on it and regret it. I appreciate your help but this is something I feel strongly about.' And then give her a hug, like closing the deal, and change the subject.

Alright, I am going to try. First I thought I would come up with cheap musicians first so I have a solution to the problem before arguing the point.

You might want to check out Ken James Productions (a vendor on here). They gave me a very reasonable quote on a trio for my ceremony and cocktail hour....i would think for a duet and only the ceremony it might be even more reasonable????
