This may be a stupid question but should you have a song list before interviewing musicians?
I'm obviously not a pro musician but I have been playing piano since I was 3. There are a lot of songs that I can play but most difficult pieces require months of practice.
Music is really important to me and I want the musicians to play before the ceremony, during the ceremony, and for the cocktail hour. That is a lot of songs.
Normally I wouldn't worry about this but I attended a wedding earlier this year and the pianist and violinist were off. It definitely created a poor atmosphere for the ceremony.

Re: Ceremony Songs for Musicians
I was so set on having a specific song played as I walk down the aisle that I based my decision on the musicians ability to get a celtic female singer at the ceremony The geek that I am took my laptop with the song downloaded to on it to meetings and said if you can do this your hired!
So if you have a specific song or even style in mind you should definitley discuss it with potential musicians before you book.

Re: Ceremony Songs for Musicians
It might not be a bad idea to have at least some of the music you want so they can tell you if they know it, etc. Or you can be general and say I want te traditional wedding fare, etc. Honestly, any musician that is playing professionally should have no problem playing whatever you request. any musician worth their salt reads music and is a professional on their intstrument, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. they know what to do. . .
