ceremony (sorry really looong)

I basically wanted to write the ceremony myself and then give it to the officiant who could use it as a guidleine adding bits and pieces here and there. I kno its long but if you could read threw it and give me opinions and comments i would appreciate it. what do you think of the order, the flow..the only change might b the letters, im kinda scared to speak all on my one so for now they r in there to personalize it but i m not sure if it will stay.

Ceremony

Officiant: “It is out of love and affection, for Matt and Michelle that we are here tonight before god, to witness their vows which will unite them in marriage. They bring to this moment the fullness of their hearts as a treasure to share with one another. We share joy with them on this special day. For tonight, they affirm and declare their commitment to one another in a celebration of love.

Officiant: I have a question for both of you. Matthew.. Michelle.. you have invited us to witness the happiness that you have found in each other. Do you come now to be joined in the spirit of love. If so, say “we do”.”

Matt & Michelle: (together) “we do”

Officiant: Story of friendship and family being very important.. Story of how they met..

Officiant: To all of you gathered here today and to those who are with us in spirit. Matthew and Michelle can feel your love, prayers, and good wishes and are so honored to share this night with all of you.

Officiant: On this special day it is fitting to speak briefly about love. Love is the eternal force of life. Love is the force that allows us to face fear and uncertainty with courage. But although you will be sharing one life, never forget you are two separate people. Cherish and affirm your differences. Love each other. Keep your commitment primary. Together you will laugh and cry. Be sick and well. Be happy and angry. Share and grow. Grow sometimes together, sometimes seperately. To symbolize the importance of the individuals within the marriage and joining of 2 lives into one entity. Three layers of sand will now be layered into a vase.

Michelle (pink sand)
Matt (blue sand)
Officiant (Neutral sand) (also holds larger empty vase)

Officiant: We begin with a layer of sand that symbolizes that the relationship is grounded.
Pours neutral

Officiant: Then we layer the individual colors. This symbolizes that the marriage is based on the strengthes of the individuals.

Michelle: pours pink sand

Officiant: pours neutral sand

Matt: pours blue sand

Officiant: pours neutral sand

Officiant: And now we combine the colors which symbolizes two lives joined as one, together, forever. Close it off with neutral colored sand. Holds up completed vase.

Officiant: Matt and Michelle, life is given to each of us as individuals and yet we must learn to live together. This is one of the greatest challenges of life. You are now taking into your care the happiness of the one person in all the world whom you love the best. You are adding to your life not only each others affection but also companionship and the blessing of a deep trust as well. You are agreeing to share strength, responsibilities, and to share love.

Officiant: We have a wonderful moment, Matt and Michelle have each privately written a letter declaring their love for each other which neither has seen. They will now read them to one another for the very first time.

Matt: Letter

Michelle: Letter

Officiant: Your wedding is one brief day in time. And although your vows are spoken in a matter of minutes they are promises that will last a lifetime. The formal exchange of your wedding vows is the most ancient part of a wedding ceremony. These are the words that couples for centuries have spoken to one another. And while they r very simple words they have extraordinary meaning and importance. As you speak them to one another you will discover that these are truly sacred promises and sacred promises must be kept forever. Matthew you will get to go first. Look into her eyes. and repeat after me.

(Officiant says, then Matthew repeats…)

I Matthew take you Michelle to be my wife
I will treasure our friendship
and love you today, tomorrow and 4ever.
I will trust and honor you.
I will laugh and cry with you.
And share my life
openly and honestly with you.
What may come I will always be there.
I promise to be true to you,
in good times and in bad
in sickness and in health
I promise you my trust
my devotion
my tenderness
and my love
as I have given u my hand to hold
so I give you my life to keep

(Officiant says then Michelle repeats)
I Michelle take you Matthew to be my husband
I will treasure our friendship
and love you today, tomorrow and 4ever.
I will trust and honor you.
I will laugh and cry with you.
And share my life
openly and honestly with you.
What may come I will always be there.
I promise to be true to you,
in good times and in bad
in sickness and in health
I promise u my trust
my devotion
my tenderness
and my love
as I have given u my hand to hold
so I give you my life to keep

Officiant: It is written that love is patient. Love is kind. It always protects. Always trusts. Always hopes and is always ready to endure whatever comes. Love never fails. Two lives shared with this kind of love can hold more fulfillment and happiness then either life can alone.

Officiant: So I have a question I need to ask you.
Matthew will you take Michelle as your wife. As your companion and best friend forever. Do u promise to treat her with love and devotion. Honor and respect. To stand by her in the triumphs and tragedies of life as a faithful and caring husband if so, say I do.

Matthew: “I do”

Officiant: Michelle will you take Matthew as your husband. As your companion and best friend forever. Do u promise to treat him with love and devotion. Honor and respect. To stand by him in the triumphs and tragedies of life as a faithful and caring wife if so, say I do.

Michelle: “I do”

Officiant: The giving and receiving of rings is the most important part of the marriage ceremony. Because the rings are made in the symbol of that which is eternal. A symbol of completeness. A symbol of committed love with no beginning and no end. As you place these symbols on each others finger they signify that there shall be no end to your marriage and no end to the happiness that u both share together. May I have the rings please.

(Matthew goes first)
Officiant says…Place the ring on her finger.look into her eyes..

Officiant. And repeat after me..
Michelle with this ring,
I marry you and join my life with yours.
Accept this ring as a sign of my love
and faithfulness with all that I am.
With all that I have.
I will honor you as my wife forever.

(Michelle goes…) place the ring on his finger..look into his eyes…
Matthew with this ring,
I marry you and join my life with yours.
Accept this ring as a sign of my love
and faithfulness with all that I am.
With all that I have.
I will honor you as my husband forever.

Officiant: Marriage is an act of faith and a personal commitment, as well as a moral and physical union between the parties. It has been described as the best and most important relationship that can exist between two human beings. Marriage should be a life long consecration to love and kindness backed with the will to make it last.

Officiant: Matthew and Michelle may the wings of angels uphold you threw all the life of your love. May you live forever in happiness with each other. May your hearts be full. May your lips stay sweet. May your love grow strong and may u live long and happily in one anothers arms. Be one in heart and always beautiful of mind.

Officiant: By the authortiy vested in me by the state of New York I now pronounce you husband and wife. We encourage all of you to join together and give a big Malzel Tov! for the new Mr & Mrs. Gregory. (break the glass) Will you please kiss your beautiful bride! (First Kiss)

Re: ceremony (sorry really looong)

Okay, I will be first to post. I think I'm a bit too much of a traditionalist, but it's a little too Trista and Ryan for me.

I think the vows are really sweet, but I don't really like the sand part and I think the some of the intro is a little too flowery for me.

Have you found an officiant yet? If you show him/her what you've written I'm sure he/she can walk you through it and give you some suggestions.

Some parts are really beautiful, I just think it needs to be streamlined a bit.

Good luck!

I think i's really beautiful and personal! I'm not a fan of the sand myself, but I like the symbolism and it is really beautiful and if it's what you like, then go for it! It's really, really beautiful!

I too am not crazy about the sand, but that's probably because I like the unity candle instead. Otherwise, I like it, you might want to streamline it a bit, but when you meet with your officant, I am sure he or she can help you do that.. Good Job!

ok - i really am not into the whole sand thing myself - and i think the vows are kind of wordy - if you have picked an officiant show it to them - they will know better what fits your religious requirements that i could.
