Ceremony Start Time vs Arrival Time on Invitation - Help!

Help!!

Very confused on what to put on the invitation. Our ceremony start time is 6:30 p.m. (reception at the same place).

Do we put a 6:00 or 6:30 p.m. start on the invitation???

Our hall vendor did not include a staff member to greet the arriving guests and give them even a glass of water if guests arrive there a little early!!

Should I go back to them and request this???

I'm not sure what to do.

our ceremony start time is 11:15 a.m. and we put 11 a.m. i think 15 min. is just enough time.

the thing is--if you put 6:00 pm. and things start running late, (which can happen) some guests who made sure to arrive early, may be sitting around for 30-45 min. and that would stink. i think the time should be a 15 min. difference at max.

The woman I worked with for invitations felt very strongly that the invitation should have the actual start time for the ceremony.

We followed her advice...this is what she does for a living, and she's been in business for quite a while!

well, we're having a string trio that's starting to play at 12:30, so I don't mind if my guests arrive at 12:45 to listen to the pretty music. Plus, I'm on a tight schedule for photography between the ceremony and the reception, so I have to start walking down the aisle at 1. I would rather a guest be late by being there at 12:50 than by being there at 1:05 when we're already at the front of the church. I can't imagine feeling that strongly about 15 minutes... a half hour might be a bit too extreme, but 15 minutes pad time won't hurt anyone.

15-30 minutes is a great idea...we did 30 b/c we have those relatives that will be late to their funerals. if you have a more punctual bunch, 15 should do it...inevitably, a road will close, an accident will block 1 lane of a 2 lane highway...allow them enough time to run 10 minutes late (at least) and not really end up late!

I posted my actual start time - I did not want prompt guests waiting around forever just because other people can't somewhere when they are supposed to. Sorry if tha t sounds Bit**y.

We're getting married at 10:30am and that's what the invite said.

However, in the church invites we placed the comment that it takes guests 35 minutes to get from the hotel to the church (it actually takes 20-25), but we wanted to play it safe considering its LI!!!

you should be honest. i would be pissed if i got there early and had to wait an hour. if people are going to be late, they're going to be late. don't penalize people who do the right thing because of a few..

i have a 10am start time and that's what i put.

We put 15 minutes early. They are always late comers. That way the guests 'on time' would not have to wait too long.

I agree... 15 minutes isn't going to be noticeable to anyone who gets there on time or even early... but it's enough of a cushion for those who might be a bit late. I'm not trying to punish people who find themselves arriving a couple of minutes late due to LI traffic or long commutes. I'm not a teacher scolding latecomers by saying 'too bad if you're late... you should have planned better.' It's a wedding... not the military. I just don't want to be walking into the church with or before anyone, so I feel more comfortable writing 15 minutes earlier on my invitation so that everyone is seated and comfortable when 'Here Comes the Bride' starts playing.

We put a half an hour earlier than the ceremony time. It worked out great, because a lot of people actually arrived later than the time we put on the invite. Our hall had an area set up with coffee and pastries for the guests. People told me they really liked this because it gave them a chance to meet up and greet each other before the ceremony. This way it was a lot easier for everyone to sit down and get quiet when it was time for the ceremony because they had already done their initial 'hellos'

I put the actual start time esp. since there is a ceremony right before mine. My family is not a punctual bunch so this decision stressed me out for a while, but (1) it's their problem if they miss my ceremony and (2) the invitiation is a keepsake so I wanted to to reflect the actual time.

I had the same experience! I hesitated at first but then realized that for some guests that come early - they be the ones punished for having to wait while the late guests get rewarded.

My ceremony was at 3 and I put that on my invite but I put the reception start time a half hour early.

ETA: I didnt see that it was the same place for you, I would make it a half hour early on the invite.
