changing HM

OK so FH and I spoke in detailabout the stuff going on un Mexico and we are strongly considering changing our HM. I am upset because I Did have my heart set on Excellence Playa Mujeres BUT we both feel that we dont want to be looking over our shoulder the whole time and afraid to go out of the resort for excursions and stuff. So does anyone have any suggestiions on somewhere else to go? we are pretty flexible and our budget is $6,000 (less would be better lol) TIA

I'm going to be totally honest with you. I've been to Mexico a bunch of times and this stuff is always going on. You will be fine if you stick to the 'strip' and hotel zone. You will not need to go anywhere else that is not in the zone. Excursions are very safe if you go through the recommended vendors through your hotel. When you check in, there should be a rep. that will walk you through all of the options for excursions and other activities that are offered in the surrounding areas. They make their money off of tourism. They dont want a bad reputation so they ensure your safety. Mexico is such a beautiful and affordable option. With how much you plan on spending, you can really get an amazing HM in Mexico. We are going to Riviera Maya for our HM (we're staying at the Excellence Riviera Cancun) and I am totally confident that we'll be fine. HTH!

i totally agree, i won't be changing my honeymoon, however you have to be comfortable with where you are....honeymoons only come once in a lifetime so you need to be happy......i've heard WONDERFUL things about St. Lucia....its apparently a more affordable alternative to Hawaii with lots of excursions, and it should be in your price rance......check it out! and good luck!

You are right. I hope my post didnt sound too 'pushy for Mexcio'. Not my intention. We were looking into St. Lucia as well. OP-Try a travel agent. They will be very helpful in trying to find the best fit possible for your HM. We used Liberty Travel and they were great.

I agree. Besides, most of that stuff is happening by the border. Playa Mujeres is not near the border. You have to be careful everywhere you go. FH and I are staying in the Rooftop Terrace Suite, so I doubt I would even want to leave the room! lol

St. Lucia is beautiful. Aruba, St. Thomas, Bahamas, Jamaica...just a few different ideas.

I have been to Mexico a few times and there are a lot of fun things to do there so I know I really wouldn't be happy with having to stay on the resort the whole time. I agree with St. Lucia they have a lot of all inclusives there and they even have 3 Sandals resorts that will fall into your price range. It's supposed to be really beautiful.

Kristy, we are going to Excellence Playa Mujeres a few weeks after you. We decided not to change our honeymoon. The areas affected by this issue aren't near where we are going. I would consider keeping your honeymoon!

This has been going on for a long time... I mean, it's up to you- if you are going to be frightened the while time you are on your honeymoon, then change it if it will give you a peace of mind.

For that price, you can do Aruba at an all inclusive resort.

I agree with the other girls about things going on in mexico all the time. But if you want to switch, i totally understand, it's better to feel comfortable!
We got a great deal totally under 6,000, actually it's waayyy under that to Punta Cana, DR. FM me if you want more info!

Re: changing HM

keep your honeymooon.!!!!. just bc media is showing attention to one area means nothign its always going on everywhere!!!!! no matter where u go you can be scared of something.. what happens if u change it to aruba and then the media focuses on a story down there. you are never going to feel comfy if u let the media into your brain. millions of people go there every day... you just have to do the right thing when you are out of the country ... have a car service pick u up from and to airport, stay at resort and with groups when you travel outside of it

they have issued a travel warning stating that the crime has risen, Kidnapping, murder, drug conflicts etc... I know this has been on going in Mexico but it just worries me. And I am also aware that it is only in certain areas of mexico however you can never be too sure.JMO

Honestly I agree with everyone else. The sad but true reality is crime is up EVERYWHERE. We go on a cruise every year and each year we notice the secirity at the ports get tighter and tighter. Just stay close to the resort and go out in groups. Good luck!!!!
