Changing last name
What is the process of changing your last name and can you do it right away? I am getting married May 24 (Sunday before Memorial Day) and was thinking of taking a day off the week right after to change my name but I heard you have to wait for something to be sent to you? Can anyone clue me in? Thank you!

I think you have to wait for a copy of your marriage license? But I'm not 100% sure.

Yes, you need your marriage license...Go to DMV with marriage license, photo ID and they make you retake your photo, and you get a new license within two weeks after....

Re: Changing last name
Yes you have to wait for your certificate to come in which takes 1-2 weeks. The certificate (not the license you get before the wedding) is what you will have to show all the places you change your name on.

The process sucks--at least it did for me after the first wedding and then divorce! For credit cards and frequent flier programs, I made a template letter and included my marriage license etc. and used that for all my name changes.

Yes, you have to wait for the marriage certificate to come. How long that takes depends on how quickly your officiant mails it in and how long the town takes to process it. I had mine in 5 days. I went to social security first, then DMV. I had to wait until I received my new SS card before I could change it at work. It's pretty painless as long as you have all of the required forms already filled out.

you need the copy of your marriage license to do anything. Just remember, if you are going on your honeymoon and change everything beforehand, you need all names to match.Welcome New Vendors
