I did mine last week and there isn't too much to it. There is a form you get online for Soc Sec and a form from DMV. Once you get your marriage license, bring it with you to both places, give them the form and then wait for the new cards to come in the mail. Credit cards are just a phone call. DMV and Soc Sec have to be done in person. My advice- bring a book

When we received our marriage license they included the DMV and social security forms in with it. I just have to find time to get it done.....DH is rushing me. Im not moving as fast as he would like me to...lol.

Re: Changing my name
start with Social Security.
it's simple just bring the form filled out(or fill it out when you get there) bring your current card and the marriage license.
most paperwork says about 2 weeks.... they told me 5-7 days but (with thanksgiving next week) i'm sure it will be 2 weeks.
From there most people have told me to do drivers license... and then from there it should be easy... to do banks and everything else.
something to keep in mind... I called my CC company and she recommended faxing the office the info this way it will save on mailing back and forth. (and she said they will take whichever, and a copy of the new drivers license (cause of the new name) would be all it takes.
HTH
good luck! (i've just started this process) and DH doesn't think I'm going fast enough too I didn't want to go to the SS office I wanted to prolong it but he drove me so I couldn't make excuses for not starting it.

Re: Changing my name
first I went to DMV. You can do this or SS first.
So I went to DMV with the marriage certificate. Then I went to SS (early in the morning) If you live in Queens, make sure you go to a SS that is a 'card center'. My local office would not do it. I was in and out in 20-30 minutes because I was the second or third on there.
After that, you will get your new license and ss card, you can give it to work, it changes there, Lastly your credits cards and misc accounts. I haven't fully changed it. I got dmv, ss, work, bank accounts and some credit cards. As they come along I change them.
