Changing Name?

Changing Name?

How many of you are changing your last name, I was going to hyphenate, and my FH didn't understand why I would want to, and when I thought about, I am not really sure why? The only major thing I could come up with is that my college degrees and my CPA license are in my last name.

For your CPA license is it a huge issue if its in your maiden or married name?? For example your license says your maiden name, but you are working under your married name will that cause any problems???

I am changing my name. My parents joke with me that I am only marrying FI to move up in the alphabet. His last name starts with K and mine W.

I want to change my name. I am old fashioned in that sense.

people i worked with that got married didnt change there name in the office. they kept there maiden name for business purposes, (there business cards, stationary, clients knew them as) but otherwise they fully changed there name.

I am changing mine

So that is the meaning behine Maiden Name. Your CPA can be changed by contacting the state. I am an RN and I too will have to contact the state to change my name on my license. No biggy I am changing my name, because I am very traditional. Good choice of taking your FH's name

I am changing my name ( I also get to move up in the alphabet W to G ), but I am keeping my maiden name for work purposes.

i am not legally changing my name, however if people call me by or address things to me as my FH's name i don't really care (for instance if i get letters for mr and mrs. blah). i'm not changing it b/c i feel that my name is part of my identity and i don't see why i should have to give it up just b/c i'm getting married. the kids will most likely have my name as their middle names and my husband's as their last.

Part of me feels like, why should I have to take his name? But then the other part of me feels like I should take it, since my only reason not to si so I don't have to change my name thru the state. That doesn't seem like a good enough reason.

Well, I guess it's all a matter of personal preference, but, I will either be not changing at all, or hyphenating. My reasons really have nothing to do with my accomplishments or degrees under this name. The real reason is, I feel like my name is part of who I am. And I don't understand why, because I am marrying the love of my life, I would have to change it. Luckily, my FI understands this and although he would probably prefer it, he has never made me feel bad about not wanting to change it. I told him that, if he wants to do it with me, we'll both hyphenate (at the moment, that is what he says he wants to do, though it will probably be a little annoying since neither of us has a very short last name) otherwise, I will probably just keep my name.

Re: Changing Name?

If I ever have children, they will have his last name, I don't want my kids to have hyphenated names. The other thing is that my last name is Page, and I would name a daughter Paige, so there might be some sort of confusion down the road with names.

I am changing my name, I guess for all the traditional reasons. It's pretty weird, though, only having 9 more days left with a name I'm so used to!

I'm changing my name. My dad makes fun of me all the time saying I'm going from a beautiful Italian name to a Polish name (not that there is anything wrong with that) but he wants FH to change HIS name..LOL

I am legally changing my name, but for work purposes, I will probably hyphenate. Over they years I have made a lot of good contacts both in and out of my firm, and I would hate to lose touch b/c they can't find me in a directory or something.

Same here. I am hyphenating mostly for work purposes.

Re: Changing Name?

I think FH would be very upset if I didn't take his last name. In fact, I KNOW he would. Plus, I want to. As I have said a million times, once I change it, I can drop the deadbeat last name I have had for 32 years and start fresh. Never have to see those idiots again (real dad's side of the family).

I am DEFINITELY changing my name. I guess I'll be moving down the alphabet though...from E to R. I've never really liked my last name...I have issues...besides FH would FLIP if I didn't, so fortunately, we don't have to have that argument.

I wonder if you can keep both names. I will also have a professional license which I am going to keep in my last name and for personal reasons use my FH last name.

It might get confusing but I dont know how else to change my professional name.

Re: Changing Name?

the cfo of my company - his wife uses her maiden name in business (even has her maiden name on her company's website), and uses her married name as a hyphenate i believe.... that's what happens when you are the president of a worldwide company.... (UGH - HOW I WISH - YOU CAN'T BELIEVE ALL THE AWESOME TRIPS SHE GETS TO TAKE!!!)

I will change it personally, but not professionally.

I'll be changing my name as well, though I will miss my family name. I will barely budge in the alphabet - my last name begins with RES and his is RIF.

I'm changing my name to FH last name and I'll change my degrees afterward also.
