Changing Photographers? Updated on pg 2

Original post by brideinhiding

I am getting married later in the year. We took engagement photos with a popular company on this website and I was really unhappy. They all looked the like the same picture, no effect, no different style of me in the background and FH blurred... ya know. And now I am starting to see a lot of wedding pictures, and to me they all look the same. I was really excited about this company when I booked them because they did do these things with their pictures over a year ago and I havent seen anything like that recently. I called TP yesterday and got a quote and its pretty much what we were getting and paying for, we'd just lose out on our deposit with the other company.

So my question to you is, would you cancel your photo/video with only a couple of months to go and go with another company to be happy?

1. Cancellation means forfeiting the entire deposit and no refunds will be given
9. The liability of the photographer for any breach of contract shall strictly be limited to the amonth of any consideration received by the photographer and or the studio for payment of the contract price.

Thats the only thing it says about the contract and cancellations...

if you're not happy. cancel. you will be kicking yourself if you dont love your wedding pictures and you had the chance to do something about it.

I called my old photographer and spoke to him directly that I was not happy and wanted to cancel his services for my wedding. it was quick. like ripping off a band-aid and I felt so much better after doing it.

dont worry abotu the deposit. just be up front with your vendor.

IMO, I would not lie to the photog about changing the date or anything because if you sound wishy-washy, they may try to snowball you into keeping your contract open, letting them keep the deposit so you can/will rebook with them, etc. If you firmly tell them what you don't like, you will get farther. This is YOUR wedding and it is YOUR money being spent, so you don't have to feel bad about confronting the photog. Just tell them what you feel. They probably handle cancellations all the time, it's part of the job. Tell them you are unhappy and plan on finding a new photog. Good luck

Maybe you're right. Do you think they would let us cancel if we just tell them that we are unhappy and thats why we are cancelling? Would be responsible for the rest of the contract price?

That depends on your contract. What does it say for cancellations? If they have enough time to rebook youll probably just lose the deposit. Read all the fine print.

Yeah - you probably will only lose what you gave him already.

TP is really so great to work with - he's such a nice guy and does really great work. . . he's the one vendor that I am SO confident in. Just be straight with you current photog, tell him his work isn't what you really want and leave it at that.

Thanks! You're making me feel a lil better about the situation. From what it says in the contract, do you think i'd have to pay the rest of what i would owe?

From what it states in your contract it looks like you are just losing your deposit. I would do it

I think that means if the photographer cancels your only entitled to what you paid back up to the contract price and cant sue for more.

Personally, I wish I could switch too :( I booked super early and should have just spent the extra money and gone with PatKen. I wanted them from the start but saved like $1000 by going with a lesser known photog. So bummed now. I hope they do a good job.

Wow, am I glad that we cancelled!

Fh called him earlier and he went off on FH. He said we couldnt compare his work with other couples to what he would do with us.. um yea, your work is your work... and he said people post pictures on LIW to showcase their dress, hall, etc, not to show off their photography. Yes we do! Thats why I booked him in the first place, because of what i saw on this site 2 years ago. He didnt want to hear it from FH and said he wanted to speak with me and hung up on FH. he had me on the phone for 15 minutes earlier not understanding why i didnt like his work.. and blamed me for the way our epics came out because I chose a winter (NOT REALLY-April) day where it was overcast. Thats not why they came out the way they did...

So needless to say I emailed him a statement that we officially cancel and we are meeting with TP on tuesday.

yes. It does stink to loose the money, but these photos are the most important thing you will have to remember your wedding by!

I did the same thing and my old photog. even called and screamed and threatened me when I wrote about my experience with them.

And TP was my saving grace as well, I even go pick up my proofs tonight from him (in 2 hours)

You made the right choice now just sit back and relax
