Oh wow you ended up changing?! Well congrats! I think the Woodlands will be great during the holidays. The fireplaces will be warm and cozy and you could really make it look Christmas-y (if you celebrate of course!).
Of course it looks old on the inside....it's a historical mansion built in the 1910s. If someone is having their wedding at the Woodlands it's because they didn't want some modern, run of the mill looking venue.

The fox was good to us and offered us alot. It just wasn't what I was looking for. It felt like a long island wedding factory, I was hoping for elegant and intimate and that's what I felt won me over with the woodlands. They understood what we're looking for and have been so accomadating. We had it in our budget and gut feeling told me it was the right thing to do. The fox is a beautiful place just not for us.

I'm so excited!! I am hoping for some christmas decor Debbie even suggested bringing a big fire pit for the patio so the grounds wouldn't be completly wasted!
Do know if they would let me do lights on the outside shrubs and such.... not nessesary but considering....

Not sure! I booked after Christmas this past year, so I wasn't around to see it during the holidays. I'm not even sure what types of decorating, if any, that they do there anyway. I'm also working with Debbie and she is always very responsive to emails even when she is not in the office.

Re: Changing Venues!!!!!! Woodlands!!
The Woodlands is so pretty. I am big on being the only event at the venue, last thing I want is to see another bride or even worse have a sweet sixteen going on.
I think you made a good choice (although i've never seen Fox Hollow so I can't really compare). But, Woodlands was my front runner for a while before I saw Sand Castle, I guess I just got 'that feeling' with SC.... I am doing a winter wedding also, and I think honestly the grounds at Woodlands will be beautiful during the winter time too, expecially if there is some snow on the ground. Get a nice white wrap or fur and you'll be set! And, If it was me and I was doing a holiday wedding at Woodlands, I would even go so far as to put a up a Christmas Tree in that Library room to the left at the Woodlands, maybe hang some photo ornaments of you and your FH, families, friends, etc. to really give it a personal touch. Afterall, its your mansion for the day!
Goodluck with everything!

I did not get the factory feeling @ Fox Hollow. It is only 2 weddings at a time there which is not bad.
It's just different, personally that was how I felt there. I didn't feel the woodlands was mediocre. I love the history and the dark wood which was what originally drew me to the fox but the sommerley was too modern and I didn't love the direction the new cocktail room was going.
Thank you!! I love the christmas tree idea!!! I was thinking about doing the mantle pieces myself, and fh is talking to some people about lighting up the front. That long drive down made me think of the house in home alone for some crazy reason. It feels perfect for the time of year!
Sand Castle is beautiful!!!! I saw it for the first time a couple of weeks ago, I didn't even look into it because I thought sand castle=summer but it's not that at all. It was too far from our church or we would have went back there! That bar is gorgeous!! and the stairs!!

It's actually 3 weddings there at a time... 1 in the somerly, 1 in the garden terrace, and 1 in the winter garden pavilion.
