Changing your name

What do i change first my SS or my driver's license? I just though of this today

When I did it I did my SS firstthen did my license. It didnt realy matter though. I went on the same day.

I did my SS card first, but NC required my SS card in order to get the new license, so I had to. I don't think it matters, but you want to get SS done ASAP.

I will probably do SS first, but I can't for about a month, because our minimoon flights were booked under my current last name, and my TA said not to start the name change process until after so there aren't any discrepancies with my ID. Then its the holidays, so it'll just be a mess.

I also changed my SS first, then license... but I went to both on the same day... so I really dont think it matters which you do first

I did my SS first and then my license. DH's boss changed her name on everything but SS and it somehow screwed up her taxes that year. That scared me so it was the first thing I did

Her taxes would definitely get screwed up if she changed her name everywhere except SS.

The IRS matches up the names on the tax return to the names in the SS database; if they don't match you have a problem.

So for all of us changing our names, make sure what you put on your tax return matches SS.

I am also going to pay the $35 bucks for that website that helps you change everything.

...unless I look at it and its basically self explanitory......

i think its something like 'from miss to mrs'.

its a process and it takes forever...
soo far i changed my bank account (needed to deposit those checks ya know) changed my cell phone bill and a couple credit cards (they dont need anything just changed it over the phone) and all my info at work...added DH as my beneficiary.
tomorrow im going to social security office to get a new ss card! then my next step is a new drivers license and passport...eventually i will change all my bills and this and that! its crazy!
