the directions look like i have to mail in original pictures? Am I reading this wrong? Did you have to mail in any pictures when you changed your name on your passport? Also, did you do it in person or did you mail away to get your new passport? TIA

That's what I read too which is why I didn't do it yet. You can get your picture taken at CVS, which is what I did the first time. I think you can go in to the post office to do it instead of mailing it. Sorry, I'm not much help.

Original passport, new pictures and marriage certificate (you can get a certified copy if you're nervous). I just received everything back. Heads up though, sometimes they send the original passport and marriage certificate back in a different package from the new passport. It took under two weeks.

I mailed the original and got it back in under two weeks. You can always get another one if the first one gets lost. Honestly, we mail in our birth certificates for the original passport so it's much the same situation.

we went to town hall yesteday to get a copy , and it was $10. they give it to you right there. i have to renew my passport, and we packed away our marriage cert, so it was just easier to get a certified copy.
you need to send in your old passport, marriage cert, new pics.

Re: changing your name on your passport
but if I do it at the post office I probably won't need to mail the original, right? I know it'll probably be fine but I'm neurotic and would rather not mail it.

Yes, you would still need to mail it for proof.

I'm pretty sure you have to send the original or a stamped copy from town hall. I did mine at the post office (for my first passport) and they still took my birth certificate...
