What is everyone doing with thier last names/or for past prides what did you do?
I would really like to keep my last name either by hyphenating or as a 2nd middle name. Does anyone have any pros and cons to mention for each of these ideas?
I definitely want to take my FH's last name in some way, since we are going to be a family, but I can't totally give up my maiden name - it's too big a part of who I am - I love my name!

I haven't even made it to the DMV either...other things took precence...like registering my daughter for school...ironically, under my married name as per the registrar!

But if you want your husbands name, I think YourLast HisLast w/ no hyphen is the best (especially if either of you has a long last name, you don't want to have to write both all the time)
someone recently told me that if you have YourLast HisLast w/ no hyphen that you can use either as your last name with no hassles?
meaning, you could be your maiden name at work and on your accounts, and your married name for other accounts (maybe joint ones especially).......you could sign checks made out to either name, etc.
I think she said it had to be written that way on your SS ??
does anyone know if this is true?

It's probably whoever you get when you go because my friend from work had the same issue on LI. It's easier to do in NJ supposedly!
I am taking my Fh's last name. I was super-excited at first because people have such a problem with my last name (even though it's a compound word and pretty easy to spell). I had to use his last name once for something though and it's going to be even worse!

I'm changing it, but slowly. It's a big adjustment.

I do plan on taking his name. The only thing I heard from my sister is that you should keep your maiden name as your 2nd middle name so that you dont have to go back and changed your college degrees. Some jobs won't believe you if you dont have it changed. Hence why she left our last name there - but NEVER uses it. (She's a teacher and said it was just easier that way)

We have this sort of family thing that you use your maiden name as your middle initial. You don't hypenate your name, but just use the letter. So my intials will go from PKL to PLT.
We do????
I added DH's to mine without a hyphen and kept my middle name!
I am now Jean Marie Maiden Name Married Name
I sometimes use both last names and other times just one of them.
best of all worlds (usually---sometimes a pain!)

Hey JNM,
I am probably keeping my name as is, but I am not going to correct anyone if they call me Mrs. D... I will b both and will answer to either one!
Oh, and if you talk to Sarah M. at work, she can fill you in on making your maiden name your middle name. I asked her the same thing since she did that and she filled me in. If I find it, I will email it to you.

OK, that's the first time I wrote 'Mrs.' and when I read it back it looked really weird! I can't believe I am going to be a Mrs. Is it just me or does that make me sound 10 years older?
