Yesterday my fiance and I went looking at halls for the first time. We really liked the Chateau La Mer and the Fox Hollow.
If any one has been at either of these two or had a wedding there please fill me in. Let me know the good and bad points about both!
Thanks so Much!

Re: Chateau La Mer and Fox Hollow
I was married at FH and I loved it!!! I really had not one complaint about the food, service, room and grounds are beautiful and they gave us a great price.
I have been to CLM once for my best friends shower and it also is a beautiful place - the food was great, it's right on the water, the service was great and they work with your budget.
It's hard because they are both great places in my opinion!!

Chateau la Mer- definetly!! I know I am biased but I have been to a wedding as well as a shower at the Fox Hollow. It is beautiful (and was one of my top choices as well) but nothing compares to CLMs view and service.

I am not getting married at either, but have been to a few weddings at Fox Hollow and I think it is great The food was amazing and the hall and grounds are gorgeous! I haven't been to CLM, but it sounds wonderful also. I vote for Fox Hollow

I would vote for Fox Hollow, I went to wedding there a couple months ago and its so pretty and warm looking there.
CLM I didnt like (sorry girls). When i called to make an appointment to see the place the BM really turned me off, trying to get me over the phone to go for a higer minimum count off the bat. He just came across to me as sleazy salesmen guy looking to make a commission and not very friendly. We cancelled our appointment there.

Re: Chateau La Mer and Fox Hollow
Not sure if that was the BM's name...unless theres only one...that may be him.
He asked me my minimum head count and right away said to me 'Oh no, you'll need to go 25 more (from 75 to 100) to have a wedding here period, regardless of time of day or year.'
I then said I'd think about it, and call him back. After speaking to FH, I called back and said, listen on LIweddings it states your minimum is 75...your telling me I now need at least 100 people to havea party there at all...which one is it??..false advertising online or trying to get me to commit to more $$ off the bat, before I even see the place!!??
Then he changes his story saying 'Oh, no well, it says 75 minimum people for a party for weekDAYS, but if your gonna cancel our appointment over it, maybe I can work with you for an afternoon wedding during Off season'
It was too late. I was already sooooo turned off. i wasnt looking to have a wedding on Tuesday or Weds, lol, and I certainly wasnt looking for a BM to see how much $$ they can squeeze out of me to guarentee before I even get to the place. Its all about thier commission! Some BM do not work on commission...like at Swan Club...they were so much less agressive and more laid back there.
Sorry, thats just the experience I had with him. Like any business, they'll be as nice as they want to you as soon as you show youre willing to give them the $$ they are looking for.
On the bright side, Im sure the facility itself is beautiful and nothings gonna take away from that fact

The same thing actually happened with me. After talking to the BM, my FH refused to go there. BUT that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with him or the hall, I'd say the majority of people have had great experiences. We just personally like Fox Hollow a lot better.

Re: Chateau La Mer and Fox Hollow
These were both my top choices too, and I went with FH.... What it came down to for me was I as having a fall wedding, and I thought that the FH would fit that time of year better -their colors, landscaping and fire places , blah blah.
I had a mostly positive experience -the day of couldn't have been more perfect -the food was delicious, the ambiance perfect and the staff was organized and falling all over us. I had a negative experience afterwards when something was stolen out of my bridal suite -you can read in more detail about it on my review: http://www.liweddings.com/chat/topic-369150-1.html

Re: Chateau La Mer and Fox Hollow
My friend got married last April at the Fox Hollow and my fiances best friend just got married last Aug. at CLM. Both weddings were beautiful, but I personally did not like CLM. I did not care for the food or the decor. That's just my opinion. I was not for me.

Re: Chateau La Mer and Fox Hollow
I looked at both, but booked with Fox hollow.... I am having about 130 people, and that meant i would have to take the upstairs room at CLM. However, the bridal sweet for the upstairs room had no bathroom and i would have to force myself inside the regular bathroom (which only had 3 stalls, one of which they claimed to be handicapp--- which was way to small).. THe upstairs is also not handicapp accessible (not sure if it makes a difference in your case)

Re: Chateau La Mer and Fox Hollow
I booked with Fox Hollow and FH's sister came soooo close to booking with Chateu la mer. I hear they are both similar in pricing and food quality. But what type of atmosphere do you want? They are pretty different in that sense. If I had not gotten teh Winter garden pavillion at Fox Hollow, i would have booked with Chateu la Mer over them. But im in love with the WGP so I went with Fox Hollow. Chateu la mer turned me off when I was looking though because I had emailed them a question about the menu and basically they wrote back saying they could not accomodate any chages and they have a reputation to uphold. I was just asking if i could take out a couple things in cocktail hour. It rubbed me the wrong way- and I was PMSing. So thats why i didn't look into them further.

Re: Chateau La Mer and Fox Hollow
HELP!!
I just read in this thread that CLM has stairs - how many stairs are we talking about? I'm going there tomorrow and was so excited about it - but now that I read those comments - i'm concerned. My FH's mom is, well, let's call her unstable....but she can't do stairs though....
