My brother is getting ready to seel his co-op and wants to buy a few things to spruce the pace up a bit. He and his roommate are both Marines and not much in the way of decorators.... I am trying to help him get some things to make the place looked lived in - but dont' want him to have to spend too much $$$$. Ideas for places to go? I've already thought of Target and gagae sales......

Do you have HomeGoods/TjMaxx or Marshalls near you?
Also, Walmart, Sears, Ikea.
If you go to Hicksville there is Ikea & Target in the Broadway mall & Sears across the street.

i LOVE that store!!! I was just in Albany a few weeks ago and had to go!!
Well, we checked out Target and he got some good stuff.....he's scared of Ikea, so that's not an option - even though I told him I'd walk with him and hold his hands through the scary parts.....

If you want really cheap, try the Dollar Tree! I wouldn't furnish my place with their stuff, but if it is just to look more finished to sell the place, they have cute cheap decorations.

We're talking about a man who's current decorations include (and I can't make this up) a Marine Bulldog statue, empty liquor bottles, a giant Japenese fan bigger than my entire body and a painting he bought in Iraq....

Scared of Ikea but fought in Iraq?
Seriously, what kind of *stuff* is he looking for?

I never said he made any sense....he also made it through war three times, but broke both of his eyes in Brooklyn
We bought (and when I say we - I picked it out for him - he paid for it) some shelves and candle type things today. He's looking for things to hang on the walls, and put on the shelves so that it looks like someone lives there. He's been there two years, and just hung his first thing up in the living room.
I guess I should give him a break....he's spent most of those 2 years in another country.....

Re: Cheap decorations for around the house
Well, I have a decorating sort of idea if he's still looking for wall hangings... I saw it on Queer Eye.
You take patterned paper, like the scrapbooking stuff at Michael's, and just put it in a frame. It sounds odd and boring, but it actually looks really cool, and modern.
