Cheap decorations for around the house

Original post by palebride

My brother is getting ready to seel his co-op and wants to buy a few things to spruce the pace up a bit.
He and his roommate are both Marines and not much in the way of decorators....
I am trying to help him get some things to make the place looked lived in - but dont' want him to have to spend too much $$$$.
Ideas for places to go?
I've already thought of Target and gagae sales......

Well, I have a decorating sort of idea if he's still looking for wall hangings... I saw it on Queer Eye.

You take patterned paper, like the scrapbooking stuff at Michael's, and just put it in a frame. It sounds odd and boring, but it actually looks really cool, and modern.

that's a great idea!!!

i mentioned frames to him - they have them at Target for $1!!!!(I got 8, thankyouverymuch)
but he doesn't want pictures of his personal life around for people to look at (i told you he's weird) but that patterned papers are a great idea!!!! i have a ton!
I might just do that myself!

Maybe he can frame some Christmas Cards??? I swear Wendy should own stock in Hallmark!

What about a charity/second hand shop? or the Salvation Army? They have tons of those stores over here, but I know they can be hard to come by on Long Island...most churches have something though...

You can frame greeting cards. Sometime those square ones form Hallmark have cool pictures.

Lori, my fahter 'doesn't get' Ikea either. I don't think my brother ever tried.

DH also needs to be bribed with food & we usually go straight to the basement & don't walk through the museum of rooms.

When we were first dating DH bught a B&W photo of a train falling off an elevated track. I liked it at the time, but
now I think it is sad, so it is at his parent's house.

DH also got a cheap low maintenance plant there last year that we still have. The basement isn't that scary.

What is there not to get about Ikea? Ikea is great!

but anyway I like the idea of framing cards. I always save the front from ones I get that i like. there are some really pretty thomas Kincaide ones.

Also, how about Dee and Dee? hey have really pretty CHEAP curtains, throw pillows stuff like that. Also, don't forget the wholesale club. And BB has some stuff on sale. Sometimes just lie a coordinated dish towel set can make a huge difference in a kitchen, for example.

It's a junk store--like Odd Job. I only knew of the one in Astoria & I think they may also be in Brooklyn. I don't know if they have them on LI.

I was in A.C. Moore last week looking for frames and they have some inexpensive prints - and the frames are right next to them.
