Cheaper to book in advance?

Cheaper to book in advance?

I'm getting conflicting info about this. Some have told me that it's cheaper to book in 05 for an 07 wedding because you will get 05 prices...others have said that it's better to book closer to the wedding because halls don't know what they have this far in advance and thus might charge more.

Any advice?

booking in advance locks in a lower rate and assures your date. Why wait and stress late in the game about which hall has your dates.

plus, would you really save on a reduced 2007 rate, when you could have locked in a rate that is 2 years earlier. Rates def go up considerably each year.

I think every place does it differently. However, overall, from the places I looked out, it was most expensive to book FAR in advance (2007) and it was less expensive to book quickly (2005 or 2006). The fact is if there is a cancellation, the hall wants to fill that date. So if its like 6 months away you might get a great deal, it just depends on how flexible you are with you dates and where you want to have the wedding.

I've experienced the same thing. I got great quotes for a reception in 6 months or before.

I booked my hall in Sept 04 for June 05. I know as a fact, the prices have gone up since we booked our hall and it's still 8 mos til the wedding.

You won't get 05 rates becuase they already have 06 rates out. However I am sure they don't have 07 rates yet. So yes you will probably be better off booking now!

It depends on the hall, some halls increase their prices every year if they become more popular or do improvements to the site.

Some halls will give you a lower price /person if you book within 6 months of the date you want. Because usually people book their wedding date much earlier than 6 months prior so the odds of the hall getting booked is slim.

When we went to a few halls this was what they told us. But we didnt want to take the chance in losing the date/month we really wanted so we booked in advance anyway.

I did not find much of a difference for the halls I looked at from 06 to 07 prices. They where for the most part the same.
I do think its cheaper to book your other vendors sooner.

I booked in April of 2003 for my 2005 wedding and got a great rate. Plus then you free up your time to start booking other vendors.

Re: Cheaper to book in advance?

the only problem with waiting too long, is that you may not get a date you want...some times prices are lower when it is close cause they want to get the date booked... but prices are low (sometimes) if you are less than a yr or more maybe even 6 months... if you get a reasonable price now.. grab it

Good luck

When i booked back in May for my June 2007, wedding, I got 2005 rates. They go up every year, I wouldn't wait that long. If you also wait too long, they might not want the date you want. Good LUck!!!

It depends. I have heard that if you book really close to the date you'll get great discounts because halls will just be happy to have the date booked. You take a big chance with this though, because they might not have a date available during the month/season you want to get married.

Re: Cheaper to book in advance?

i don't know about anyone else...but i know from my experience personally:

FH and i booked our hall in late march 05 for a wedding in feb. 07. it's cheaper in that month anyway...but i know that the rates are going up slightly in 06, and probably will be higher in 07. so i know we're saving some dough there.

We are using a bridal center for most of our other vendors...photography, video, invites, flowers, tux's, limos, etc. we booked them in june 05, and i believe that as of this month they are raising the rates on all their packages. (they had remained constant for 3 yrs.) so no matter what we do, even if we change things late in 06, they will go back to their prices from 05, and that's what we would pay. not the inflated prices later.

so in answer to your question...yes i believe if you book now for later you will wind up saving money. it's true that you might luck out with a cancellation and a vendor will want to give you cheap rate closer to your date....but why take a chance on the biggest day of your life! plus, i like having just about all my vendors taken care now, so i know *exactly* how much money i have to save between now and then, and when my big day comes, i won't worry about writing checks.

good luck in what you choose!

I think the only thing you can dave on is your hall. That means that you will have to take any date they have available. Let's examine this closely:

Hall now charges lets say 85 pp. In 06, 90 pp and 07 100 pp. Because they are giving you a deal for booking 6 months in advance, you may take that 100 pp and pay now only 85 pp. Wouldnt you wish you had the full 2 years to pay little by little?

And vendors do go up every year!

Re: Cheaper to book in advance?

I started booking a year and a half in advance b/c not only did I want to lock in cheaper prices but b/c I wanted the pick of the litter. I didn't want to wait until a few months before and get stuck with whoever was left available.

I'd definitely lock in the rate now if you can. They go up so fast sometimes!
