cheaper to make your own cardbox?

cheaper to make your own cardbox?

Hello! I was just wondering for those DIY brides, if making a cardbox (with lets say 5-7 presents...4 main ones and the rest are small ones) comes out cheaper than buying one.

The card boxes that I've been looking at are going to cost me about $115 if I buy them ready made from For the Modern Bride.

TIA!

All I know is that I'd rather a professional do it and turn out amazing... than me do it and it come out so-so .... BUT I did see one cardbox someone actually made that came out amazing! Are you creative?? If you are, go for it!! I think it would def be cheaper for you to make your own

I forgot to add: I ordered mine from the modern bride... their stuff comes out soooooo gorgeous!!!!

ha...I'm not that creative...I guess I'll just buy it. I want it to come out professional looking but I doubt my craftsmanship :)

Thanks for the help!

Here are a few pics of mine from in progress ot the day of....mine cost me about $45. Fabrics were on sale 50% off at Joanns and in the city they were like a dollar a yard.

Dont mind the slant in the second pic i scanned it strangely.

I got a GREAT idea for a card box from Soontobemaxwell (she's an '09 bride) - If you search mailbox..her post will come up with pics..
I ordered a white aluminum mailbox from walmart.com and i will decorate it with lettering on one side saying 'Just married' - and on the other side i will put 'The Vera's Est 3-15-09'

Check out her pics..its such a cute idea!!

Its definitely cheaper to DIY. My MIL made mine because she is so talented with that kind of stuff.

You could post on the '08 board and see if anyone is selling theirs?

MUCH cheaper, in my opinion, but I didn't have a huge one, only 2 boxes, which I got at Michaels. You know yourself best...if you are crafty and feel confident that you will be happy with what you come up with, do it. If you'd rather order one and be done with it, then spend the money and leave the worry behind. Just be aware, I know a lot of b2b's on here have complained and worried about getting their cardboxes late and not until a day or two before their weddings when they've ordered them.

here's a pic of mine:

I did this for my Cali reception...it was a lot of work....and nobody realized it was a cardbox!
But I was proud of it....the theme was our cross country trip!

All of these look great! I was about to post a question about cardboxes when I saw this thread. Can anyone explain how it was done? TIA!

Wow, all the brides that posted pictures of their DIY on here had such awesome card boxes!!!!

I personally am crafty, but not that crafty...I am more than likely just going to buy a cardbox of something similar to it to put all my cards in...

Re: cheaper to make your own cardbox?

We bought a decorative bird cage from Home Goods for $26 and made some minor modifications to make it a secure card box. We spray painted it white and attached the bottom to the top of the card box securely using dowels (which made a gap for people to put the cards in).

It ended up costing under $35, probably, with my dad's labor.

So funny that this question was asked as I was just looking up fabrics and stuff.

Girls who made their card boxes, what kind of boxes did you use and where did you get them?

I personally would do it myself unless you have the money to spend. I bought one off of ebay for $5 for the eparty. For the wedding, I am making one from a craft store because there is just sooo many things to choose from.
