My fiance and I had a jam packed weekend checking out RHs since we were only in from Boston for 2 days. Here's the rundown...
Crescent Beach Club - absolutely gorgeous views and you're paying to be right there on the beach. In the end, we didn't feel it was a good fit for us and a bit overpriced for a Sunday night. I couldn't believe how booked up they already were too, crazy!
Lands End - This was my most anticipated hall to check out. From the second we walked inside we were treated like gold. The place is so polished and elegant. The service was phenominal, the views are gorgeous, and the food sounds amazing! I was scared to see the price, but it's totally workable for us for a Sunday night. My FH and I just knew this would be the place and I left feeling so happy!
West Sayville CC - Extremely affordable and gorgeous location. Not as polished or professional, but very nice and a great value. We were so sold on Lands End that we ruled this one out.
Lombardi's on the Sound - We went here b/c we already had an appt and it's silly not to see as much as you can. My only pet peeve was that my appt was rescheduled twice the day before and then I was called again the day of asking me to push it later once again. So we went there with a bad taste in our mouths for the service. The woman we met with was definitely very nice though, but not as professional as Lands End. The place is gorgeous and IMPRESSIVE! But, it didn't feel unique for us and we also fear the service will be lacking. The price was much better than Lands End so now we're a bit stuck.
Any advice...Lands End vs. Lombardi's??? I'm making an extra trip home on Friday just to check each one out again with my mom and ger her opinion.
Anyone work with either and have any complaints? I've heard a few for Lombardi's, but everyone says that the day of it was outstanding. I have yet to hear a bad word muttered about Lands End.
Wow, that was long!! Any advice would be amazing ladies! Thanks

Re: Checked out RHs...advice needed!
I personally have never been to either but do know two people who went to Land's End for weddings and said it was beyond Outstanding. I saw pictures and the video, and that seemed pretty accurate. Haven't heard one bad word about it.

Re: Checked out RHs...advice needed!
Hello, I actually looked at all of the places you did except the one in Sayville. I have lots of advice!
I LOVED lands end and think it is just so classy. It was actually my first choice until I went to Giorgio's. I love that it is on the water, they have nice grounds (beautiful in the summer...they may have looked dreary in the winter) and the cocktail hour room is real pretty. I dont love the ballroom but it is better than many others I saw. If I booked Lands End...I would definitely get those white chinese lanterns..I think it really adds something to the room. Also I have never been to a wedding there but heard the food is great. I have been to a wedding at flowerfields (same owner, same menu) and the food was fantastic. I am really pulling for Lands End here!
As for the others....CBC is very nice but I did not like the layout of the hall (3 floors) and the Ballroom was just so so. I did not like the price either.
Lombardis on the sound...I did not like the cocktail room, thought it was tacky. Also the main ballroom was rather bland and there was no view of the water from it! At least lands end...you have full view of the water from the ballroom! The view at Lombardis is spectacular....but I just liked Lands End better! Ok hope I didnt confuse you too much. It sounds like you love Lands End alot and you should go with your gut. I would have booked them but Giorgio's beat their price by $15/head and I just fell inlove with Giorgio's ballroom (even though it is not right on the water..which is what I originally wanted!)

Land's End!!!!
All my guests and my vendors raved about them! My dad, who is very particular, LOVED them. Also, the view from the ballroom is open throughout the whole wedding.

PS We also planned the wedding from Boston. Jennifer, our BM, was very professional and on top of things. I had a good feeling about working with them throughout and they were very accommodating of our travel schedule.
I did not have a wedding coordinator, and didn't feel that I needed one, because everything was handled so professionally.

Definitely go with Lands End over Lombardis on the sound. Much more professional staff and treatment. Great food, nice view. As another poster said they fell in love with Giorgios and I have to say that if you didn' t check that one out you really should. My friend originally wanted the water view also but at Giorgios you can still take pics at the water and the food and service are great!!

also check camerakrazie's review of land's end on the bride's review page
i was just gonna say that! She's an 07 bride that got married there...here's a link to her review...everything looked amazing!
That's so funny, because I've actually been in touch with her through FM and she's SO helpful! Her review really made me excited to check out Lands End in the first place!
Thanks for the advice everyone!

Re: Checked out RHs...advice needed!
I've looked at both for my own wedding and attended weddings at both and you can't lose either way.
Lands End..this was my first choice originally also. The wedding we went to there was beautiful, the food was fantastic and the service was great. The view was unbeatable. My personal negative was when I was a bride-to-be, when I was looking, they were not accomodating orl flexible with ANYTHING so that is why I went elsewhere.
Lombardi's: CH was unbelievable, view is nice, service was good. I didn't like that the bathroom was down a steep flight of stairs. The food at dinner was just okay.
Either place has impressive views and you'll be happy with whatever you choose.

i would go with your gut. if you can do land's end on your budget, then i say book. we're having it @ wscc, which i think is a great affordable alternative, but then i'm biased

Lands End actually is in Sayville, and that would be my top choice! I almost picked it but then I fell in love with Flowerfield, but honestly it is GORGEOUS and the food is great! Good luck!

I am in the same situation...I can't decide between Lands End & Lombardi's on the Sound. They are both great!! The only thing that is making me lean more towards Lombardi's is the price difference between the two...Lands End was $40 more a head for my quote but I am looking for June 09' on a Sat eve.

Land's End was my runner-up choice.
I have never been to a wedding at Lombardi's on the Sound... but almost walked into one trying to figure out how to get into the restaurant.

Thanks for all the advice everyone!! I'm making an 'emergency' trip home to LI again this weekend to do a final run through of both. This time I'll be taking my mom for her opinion.
Hopefully I'll be booked (or at least be holding a date) by this time next week!

Re: Checked out RHs...advice needed!
FHs best friend got marrried at Lands End about 3 years ago, and it was one of the most beautiful weddings I have been too.. the pics on the beach were gorgeous, and he was a GM so we def got extra special treatment, the dance floor is huge, and they had a band, which definatly made the night much better (they were fantastic!!) and the foooooodd.. was never ending at CH, and just very ppolished during dinner... you will not be disappointed..
and sometimes you can just look at the bottom line money wise, weight out what youa re getting for the price, and also how comfortable you are with your venue, sometimes you do pay more, that few extras make a world of difference in the end!

Land's End all the way!! I have had nothing but positive experiences with all of the ladies there so far. I ate there over the summer at the Wednesday Lobster Night and the food was sooo good. I am very excited for my upcoming tasting where I decide my menu!

Re: Checked out RHs...advice needed!
We checked out Lands End and Lombardis on the Sound too. We booked Lombardis. My future in laws went to a wedding at Lands End and said the food was good but one thing that she said that happened was that the Fire Island Ferry drives right by the site. I didn't like that at all. I didn't want to have a bunch of tourists in the background of my pictures.
When we looked at Lombardi's it felt more secluded and then we had lunch there afterwards and the food was fantasic. My future in laws stopped to have lunch there a few days later when we told them we were leaning that way and they said the food was better than Lands End.
When we were having questions about deciding on our RH we put everything in a spread sheet and looked at in a monitary sense and for what we got and what we were paying Lombardi's was BY FAR the best value.
As for the service there...well I haven't had any problems with them...they were very accomodating to me. A co-worker of mine used to work for them and she said that they are totally on top of everything when there is an event going on. She said one woman once got fired because a napkin was wrong.
