OK I just recieved an invitation for my friends wedding. On the response card it asks to check chicken, beef, fish, or vegetarian. I'm not sure if anyone else here did that, but how am I supposed to know what I'm gonna want to eat over a month from now??

I am guessing this is an out-of-town wedding..My future Brother in law got married last year in Rochester, NY and we had to respond with our dinner choice. The same happened at 2 other weddings not in the tr-state area. I have found out that if the future Brother-in-law didn't do this they had to pay an extra $3 per head. Strange!

beef?
Yeah. This is something that happens outside of the area... it's pretty weird but it doesn't happen around here.

Re: beef?
My brother saved like $2,000 by having people pick the food choice before the wedding, (he got married at Disney, and they nickel and dime you) but he included a detailed food list, he told you what exactly each dish was.

Re: beef?
I have heard of that before and received an invite like that for an out of town wedding.
It must really keep costs down since the caterer knows pretty much how much of everything to get opposed to having to be prepared to make fish, chicken or beef for everyone.

Re: beef?
I know when we planned some formal dinner dances between sororiety and my current school. The catering people told us they would take a certain amount off the cost if we told them what people wanted. They told us it saves them money b/c they know exactly how many chickens, fish and meat dishes they needed to prepare which cut the cost. I have heard it done at weddings but just not in the NY area.

Re: beef?
I went to a wedding in Pittsburgh, where they did ask what we wanted for dinner before hand. I haven't seen this done in NY though.

My brothers wedding was in Rochester, NY 2 years ago and they DID ask what we wanted on the invite. The wedding was VERY different there. They did ALL of the eating at the beginning and ALL of the dancing at the end. They don't mix the two

I agree, i received an invite like this from PA. But not in metro NY. I hate that!! It also makes me think the food isn't as fresh as it is at a 'decide when you're there' kinda place.

Re: Chicken, Beef, Fish, Veg.
I've been to a wedding where this was done, and I thought it worked out very well. Basically instead of shouting to a waiter over a DJ/Band, or asking him to repeat for the 100th time, everything is just smoothly brought to the table. Your seating card indicates what you ordered, so no one has to ask. Personally, I would guess that things would be 'fresher' this way if anything -- since the catering hall can order exactly what is needed for a particular event, and isn't using the unordered meats from the day before. In terms of what you are going to want to eat a month from now -- I am creature of habit and generally order the same choice at all events.

I received an invite like that too for an out-of-town wedding in NJ. The only thing I did not like about it was that the waiter never asked you which entree you chose. They just started to bring them out and if it was not the one that you chose you had to tell them and then they had to give you a new plate.

I thought I was the only one who got a response card like this. I wish I knew what type of chicken, beef and fish dishes are being served.

Is the wedding in Florida? We got that question on a response card for a Florida wedding last year. Maybe its regional
