Children at a Wedding?? Thoughts

Hello,

Please let me know your thoughts on having kids at a wedding. I have many cousins of mine that are around the ages of 5-10. I know this is a very sensitive topic with many and want to get some insight on what other brides might have decided. I also have many family members that have a sibling around 20 years old but then another sibling that is 8-10...Opinions needed. If we invite all of the kids we are talking about 15 kids total.

We have a lot of little kids in our family so we don't want it to turn it into a romper room, our cousins that are 14 and older will be invited. It's really up to you and your fiancé, some people like to have children at their wedding because a wedding is a 'family' affair.

Ugh I completely understand! I'm having the same problem. I'm looking at almost 30 kids from ages 1-14 and I'm so nervous about I lost my battle with my FMIL about no kids so when I address the invites I'm not putting and family. When people ask if children r invited my answer will be ' if ur able to get a babysitter please do there are too many children on both sides and I would like everyone to have a good time w/o being worried about their kids'. I'm going by the honor code here and praying that people get babysitters! ??

I agree don't address ' and family' hopefully people will think children are not invited and get sitters.

We aren't having any kids at the wedding. Personally, I want my friends and family to enjoy themselves and not be worried about taking care of their kids for a night.

We had kids at our wedding and my one complaint is I wish the parents watched them more! They were involved in so many of our 'key moments'. They are basically in the pictures with us too. When we got our proofs back i was a little P.O d, the day was about my husband and me, kinda wish the parents would've explained that to them.

I only had kids ages 10 and up, because I feel that is when they know how to behave properly. I made one exception for my little cousin who was 8, but she was with her sisters that are 14 and 12 and would keep an eye on her.

We'll have a few kids there, but not enough to seem like a day care!

we are doing 21+ except the 6 kids in the bridal party.
we felt bad because this meant 2 out of 3 sisters in a cousin's family werent invited, but the parents said it was OK!

We don't have many kids in our family so this was not a problem. I think the best way to handle this is to set a few rules and follow them, no expections.

Bridal party kids only
No one under 10 or 18 or 21
Family kids only, no friends kids
People traveling over x miles away

You need to set the rules and not give your guests/cousins the option to find a babysitter. One cousin will find a babysitter and then 2 won't. The one who paid for a sitter will be upset that her kids aren't there and feeling will be hurt.

Also, you need to take into account the cost of kid meals. Some include kid meals under 12 and some are 1/2 of the adult meals. Is your wedding Friday night? Bring up to the parents that it will be late for the kids and you want them to enjoy themselves since it starts after 6-7pm.

I'm having that problem. My FH and I agreed only the two kids in the wedding party and we told his family. But my original ring bear I have to say no because he's one of 3 kids and I don't want the other kids to come.

My policy is if the guest in question is under 18 and it takes me more than two words to explain how they're related to me then they're off the list. FH and I both have huge families so if we included kids that aren't nephews and nieces we would be in the 250+ range. You don't have to make excuses about it - back in the day ALL weddings were 'adults only' parties and for good reason!

Bottom line is, it's your party and you can invite (or not invite) whoever you want!

we are doing 18+ for all guests except for the kids in the wedding party. it's 4 kids in the bridal party, and one cousin of mine who is 16 that i made an 'usher' during the ceremony just to give him and job. Other family members are not being invited with children. We even have one family that has an adult child 20 years old and has 2 younger children under the age of 10. I hope they aren't insulted. I think I might just talk to them specifically because it's a different situation and give them a heads up...

I agree weddings were adults only for a good reason! It really isn't any place for a child, but I do understand how families with a lot of children do end up inviting them. It's ok to do whatever you want and whatever works best for you!
