How does everyone feel about children at a reception?
I would have to invite 15 children to my wedding =(
If I am not inviting children how do I do the flower girl and ring bearer thing?
This is sooooo complicated!!
My parents are younger than FHs..So I have many cousins that are young.
Please give me advice!

Re: Children at Reception
we are inviting children at our wedding, there are a lot of my younger cousins that i wouldn't feel right not having there.
I know a lot of girls on here are having 'adult only' receptions, maybe they can help you out.
good luck!

'12 crashing
The only children we're having at the wedding are those in the BP (2 FG's and 1 RB).
Otherwise, I have cousins that will be there but they will all be 15+, so I really don't consider them to be children.

We were going to go with the over 18..but that will split some families right down the middle..Im trying not to insult family members but I have a budget and a large guestlist.

Re: Children at Reception
the only children under the age of 15 who will be at the reception is my junior bridesmaid.
I did make an exception for the 15 month old twins I'm a nanny for. I love them and their parents, and wouldn't want them to miss it. But i'm sure they'll be leaving after CH

Re: Children at Reception
Over 18 only. I would have made an exception for FGs and RB but their parents said even if they were invited - they werent coming. They want to be able to have a good time.
Personally, I didn't want to spend all the money on chicken fingers and for them to fall asleep. I also dont want to be tripping on kids or hearing them cry during speeches or something.
I love my nieces and my nephew more than anything in the world but it's an adult night.

Re: Children at Reception
we are doing adults only reception. My wedding will only include the children that are in the bridal party (2 FG and my son the RB). I didn't want to be rude, but I didn't want everyones kids coming and running around and the parents worrying about their kids and not having fun.

Re: Children at Reception
We are not inviting any children as guests with exception of my daughter who will be five, 2 weeks post wedding and her 2 best friends who will be co-flower girl and ring bearer. I didn't want to end up with 30 kids. Our wedding is the coming together of a family ( I adopted my daughter solo in 2008) so I want my daughter to be special yet supported by having her 2 besties there.

I am having my little cousins at the wedding, but the youngest is 11. Most parents will enjoy the night off.

Re: Children at Reception
No children will be at my reception. Not even my flowergirls. They will go home after the ceremony.

Re: Children at Reception
The ring bearer will be there but no other children are invited.
I think if you have kids in your BP, you can make an exception for them and not have it cause turmoil. People aren't going to be like well why were THOSE kids invited? WEll, DUH they were IN the wedding!

Re: Children at Reception
We had 4 FG's and 2 RB's (all of DH's nieces and nephews). We invited a few teens that were close cousins but other than that we generally did not invite families with children.
To avoid confusion on the invites, we addressed them for example:
Mr. & Mrs. John Smith
Then on the RSVP card, we put
_2_ seats have been reserved in your honor
For the few invites to families, we just had our invitation woman change the number of seats.
That way, there was no confusion on whether or not kids were invited or not.
We ended up having only 1 couple (my mom's cousins) actually call my grandma and ask if they could bring their kids since they'd be coming from FL. My grandma just explained that we had a big guestlist and limited seating, and the people were totally ok with it. They came anyway.
A few people brought kids to the church but I never even knew until afterwards!

Re: Children at Reception
I'm having 8 children. I'm putting them at the 'kids' table, and I will have some kind of edible favor for them instead of the favor everyone else will get.
