FH and I are having a little discussion. I would prefer to not have any children at our wedding, as I feel it sets a different atmosphere than I am looking to have. Being a single Dad, FH says its 'important' to have children at the wedding. Obviously his daughter will be attending and will be our flower girl, but he feels that there should be more children there and I feel that just she is enough. To be fair, FSD loves being the center of attention and has spent much of her life around adults and does not mind being in the company of them.
We decided to open the discussion up to your opinions. Please tell us why you decided for/against having children at the wedding. TIA!!

Re: Children at the wedding?
I'm still on the fence about this. My nephews will definitely be there, and they are also my ring bearers. They will be 7 and 4 at the time. My flower girl will be almost 3, but her mom is in my BP so I don't even know if she'll want to bring her to the reception.
FH and I have some cousins with children that I may allow there, but that's probably the extent of it.

Re: Children at the wedding?
We have a few little children coming, fh has 5 nephews and we will absolutely not exclude them. But we really don't have any little cousins, most are teens/young adults. I think overall there are maybe 5 children under 12
If I had like 20 children, I would say no, but just a handful doesn't bother me.

I having children but the youngest is 10 yrs, so cannot really call them little. SInce my wedding is in the afternoon I can fill them up with sugar and send them home. I am such a bad bride.

Yea... by that time we'll be inviting 13 children ages 13 and below.
It's weird cuz my cousins by that time will range in ages from...... 25-7 lol. I'd feel weird inviting 3 out of a 4 sibling group. If the parents don't want to bring them i'll leave it up to them.

Re: Children at the wedding?
we are still on the fence about this. FH has kids on his immediate family side ages 5 -13 at the time of the wedding. they were invited to the e-party and are well-behaved, so i cant see excluding them. our FGs are our nieces so they of course will be invited and we are still deciding on the RB.
the question of whether to open it up to friends that have children is uncertain. i think most likely not....but not sure.
i think if the kids are important to you and your family, include them! if its just children in general, keep it limited.

Re: Children at the wedding?
we are inviting a total of 5 kids, which are all of our nieces/nephews, whether or not the parents decide to bring the kids is fully up to them

Re: Children at the wedding?
I am DEAD SET against it!! That is why I offered to allow children to the eparty. It's more casual and it's not the big day.
FH's god daughter is our FG and like your FH's daughter, is quite comfortable around adults and always, no matter what, no matter the location, the occasion, steals 'the show.' I mean really, with all this planning do I have to ultimately compete with a 6 year old?

Don't give me any ideas! LOL Then it will be 'ohhh te food made her so sick, she spent half the night in the bridal suite or ohhh poor baby, she didn't get to sing her favorite song, oh you'll have to play it again for her.

Re: Children at the wedding?
I dont think having a zillion kids running around is fun for the bride and groom or guests. We are having FH's kids of course and my two cousins...but that is it. I dont want my wedding to be a circus...and I also dont want to pay a fortune for them to eat chicken fingers : )

The last thing I need at my wedding is one of my drunk friends stepping on a little kids hand on the dancefloor. No kids for me.

Re: Children at the wedding?
At first, I really didn't want any children besides the two that will be in my bridal party. So, we said just the 2 in the bridal party. My niece, will be 5 years old (my sisters daughter) of course, will be invited and she will be my flower girl, and FH's niece will be 3 1/2 and will also be my 2nd Flower girl. So, that’s all I wanted. All I kept thinking was at my first dance, I was going to hear screaming crying in the background!
But, my mom was very adamant about this and felt that I should invite my 1st cousins daughter. My mom felt this is our family and we are close with them and see them all the time for the holidays and birthdays etc. I did agree. Plus she is very close to my niece (same age), and I also felt - by inviting my cousin's daughter it will keep my niece occupied, she would have more fun. But since I am inviting my one cousins daughter, I felt I had to invite my other cousins 2 daughters…they will be 4. So, they will be free at the hall…so it would be a total 5 little girls all 5 and under. Just very close family. I was told that you have to be careful, you cant invite some and not all, so if anyone asks its just very close family. I hope it doesn’t cause a problem.

Re: Children at the wedding?
No kids for me however FMIL is pro-children because she never went to a family party of her kids weren't invited- whether she was going to take them or not... Hopefully these parents will leave the kids home because I definately do not want little kids rolling all over the dance floow while people are trying to eat dinner. Sorry if this makes me a miserable wench however my parents never took me to weddings b/c of the same reasons.

my thoughts exactly!!!!!! Nope no kiddies for us... I will only have one nephew at the time of the wedding and my cousin has 2 little ones... not bad... BUT FH has 30 FIRST COUSINS! and he is the youngest of them all... sooo no way they all have kids and we can't tell one yes and not the other. All of the children were welcome at our e-party and they were all soooo good, but we are having an adult only reception

Re: Children at the wedding?
i have alot of out of town guests with children and most are family so if they bring their kids great if not its no big deal I would rather just give them the option to have them there or not its not a big deal. I remember going to weddings when i was younger.

Re: Children at the wedding?
Since we are having a late friday night wedding i am hoping parents will not want to bring them but we are not inviting children at all...just our kids which are in the wedding. Kids are so picky with what they eat i think its a waiste of money to pay for a plate for them, even if its reduced, then they waiste it.
AM I WRONG???

Re: Children at the wedding?
we aren't having kids...we have like 20 kids that would need to be invited and thats way too many kids to be running around...we can't just invite some and not others so we are eliminating all kids.
