Children At The Wedding Drama

Original post by JPbride

We decided that the only children at our wedding was going to be the children that are in the wedding party and their siblings, any bridal party member who has children and needs to bring them and anyone who is traveling from out of state. Well apparently FH’s cousin found out that some children are coming to the wedding (she was told the why certain children were coming) and called FMIL and threaten her and said that she is appalled that her children were not invited (they are 7 & 9 and probably have no idea who we are) and if they can’t come they will not come. By the way, they live on Long Island and already responded YES for her and her husband.

Ugh! What the hell is wrong with people!!!!

We are only having the immediate children in the family there, our nieces and nephews, and two are in the BP. For someone to threaten that they won't come is just ridiculous. I would simply say, 'I'm sorry you won't be able to make it.' It may be a bit b*tchy but they are just being plain silly with that.

Us too, only nieces and nephews are invited and they range from age 9 up to 28 years old. Only 3 of my 7 nieces/nephews are coming.

We are having one infant (under 6 months old so I expected them to bring her) from OOT and possibly 2 of FH's cousins children. She is really a close cousin (like a sister) and I had her kids on the list from the start and FH wanted to take them off. Not to mention, the kids are not really young, like 13 & 17.

I have people not coming to my wedding because of their children and that is their choice.

I would nicely say that you made this decision a while ago and you are sorry you can not accomodate their request. And that you hope they can still come.

If they come, they come. That's my philosophy!

I totally agree with this - it's my choice to not allow children, we'd love for you to come, but it's your choice to not attend.

My viewpoint - anyone who threatens to stay home can do just that - stay home.

Totally agree - we have a few of those and told them to stay home. We do not need that kind of negative energy around us. What kind of person does that Let me bring who I want to YOUR wedding or I won't come

I agree with this also!!

No one has threatened us yet (but then again we're allowing kids). However, most people are looking forward to leaving their kids at home!!!

She should not be threatening you that way, and if she has to act so childish as to make threats, then tell her that her kids AND her childish self do not belong at an adult reception!!

Just like some adults are ivited and some aren't - some kids are and some aren't!

Exactly - but its not out of line for a person to be upset and/or offended that their children are asked not to attend. Of course its absurd to make threats and act foolish but I do understand how the 'no children' or 'some children' can cause a conflict.

To the original poster, make peace with your decision and enjoy your day regarless of what others think. Of course this particular situation is going to cause drama its tricky. Best of luck

stick by your guns--don't let anyone try and threaten you! i'd just say 'Well then i guess you can see the pictures when they come out'

people have nerve thinking they can tell you what to do with YOUR wedding!
