Children at the Wedding Reception

Original post by cedesnyc

Ladies,

My FH just threw a monkey wrench on the guestlist....he doesn't want children at the wedding and wants me to put No Children Please on the invitation ....

I'm mortified b/c all my bros, sis, cousins and friends have kids how do i tell them???

Is anyone having this issue?

I want to have fg's but he's saying that's not fair b/c no children are allowed.....what to do???

Personally we are not having anyone under the age of 16 at either our Ceremony or Reception. And this was hard to decide because FH has some first cousins who are younger, but they will not be included. We just felt we wanted it to be an adult celebration. However if you want to have kids present and FH doesn't maybe set an age cutoff? It could be a useful way to compromise? Hope this helps!

Same here - only kids are in the BP. I wouldn't put no children...I'd do 'Adult Reception to follow'

Same here!

Im wondering why you would need to put Adult reception. the people invited are indicated on your invitation. it would specifically say Mr & Mrs ---- and family or childrens names if they were invited. Are people that nervy???

I'm gonna go with yes! People get very touchy about this subject!

Re: Children at the Wedding Reception

it's customary, i think, to invite children in the BP to the reception. that might be a bit awkward if you don't. as far as the rest of the kids in the family--tough nuggies if it's not what you want. weddings are too expensive to start going down that road out of obligation. i would draw a very clear line (i.e. BP and over 18 ONLY, or something very concrete that you feel comfortable with so it's fair). i see it as an evening affair for adults, and people need to accept that, period. i'm having my 2 FGs and my jr. BM @ the reception and that's it. if people don't like it, that's their problem. sry if i sound grumpy about, but i've had it up to here w/ people telling me what i do and do not need to do with our wedding that we're paying for ourselves. bottom line is it's your and FH's decision.

if you're looking to have an adult reception, and want to get the word out, specify the number of invitees on the invitation, and i think you'll be okay. otherwise, there's always the power of word-of-mouth. good luck!

Anyone feel like I do and think that kids can often be the life of the party? I never understood why so many people were against kids at weddings

I was going to say the same thing... I would feel so bad if I didn't have all of my little cousins there!

It's different for me though - we're really only going to have 5 kids under 10. The rest are all between 11-17. I can see how it's hard when there are lots of little kids though.

I originally didnt want kids and now I'm thinking how cute would it be for them to have their own invitation and have them come in costumes? I'm not sure.

The only kids I am having at my wedding are My FG and RB . I want to invite my aunts and uncles kids but my fiance said no. I know it will cut our list a little but I kind of want them their. My Grandma said don't do it because they will be annoying. I am in a dilemma also.

The only children at our wedding will be the FG and RB.....have to cut ends somewhere....you know what I mean. I come from a big family with small kids and if I invite one's kids and not the others...then that will create DRAMA that I don't need!

Re: Children at the Wedding Reception

Wow I have a lot to say on this post.. sorry!

I'm having my bp kids (2 fg 2rb) and I can relate to fighting with FH about having other 'kids' ... I am the first of my family friends' children to get married, how do I not invite who I grew up with? I decided on those who have graduated from high school that i had been/am close with.

I hope that gives you some support!

We're having kids at the ceremony (not in BP though) and no kids at reception (it's 'til 12:30 at night!). Some hotels have babysitting services, and some family members can 'pool' together and have the kiddies all together somewhere.

I once attended a wedding as a Mother's Helper, got dressed up and everything, and was paid by the couple to come and keep the kids entertained and under control while they had a great time. Of course, they had to pay me and make sure their gift covered the extra meal . . . .

It's easier to say 'no kids.'

i dont mind kids at weddings because they do have a good time and people enjoy them but if i were to invite all kids i would have about 15 so we're sticking with first cousins only and my son of course lol so that makes 6

FH and I wouldn't mind children at the reception. We have too many members of the family that have children at the young age........So we wouldn't mind.
