Re: Children at wedding??
It's up to you - Personally i think if you're going to have them in the BP, it's kind of a disappointment not to invite them to the reception. - I'm not having any kids at all.......

I think if they are in the BP you should invite them to the reception.

I am not having any children at mine- but where my reception is, they can set up a 'babysitting room' bring in a TV and stuff- not sure what the food sitch is, perhaps yours can as well. My place charges $50 a head for children of they come to the reception- no friggin' way!

ditto.
we didn't invite any other kids to our reception, but the three children in our wedding party (two RB's ages 4 and 6, one FG age 3) were included at the reception and they had a blast ... I coulnd't imagine sending them home after they participated in the ceremony.
but all other little children of our guests were not invited ... everyone has a ton of kids it would have gotten crazy .LOL

Re: Children at wedding??
I am running into the same problem. I am the last one... friends and family to get married... I'll be 34 (first time). We are only inviting 90-100 people and everyone is married with the exception of three people and one is my Dad (so I guess his kids will be there...lol). I'm already getting complaints as my wedding is Monday, July 4, 2005 and people are annoyed because they think they should be alble to take the kids because it is during the day and on a holiday and have to travel from Westchester or Jersey. My fiancee and I did the math... if we invited everyone's kids we would have 90 adults and 51 children under the age of 10 alone... this doesn't include the teenagers. NO way! Even my matron of honor will be leaving her 1 year old in Massachusettes.
We are having four kids... my FH nieces and nephew who will be in the wedding party. Ask your caterers to set up a separate table (no place settings) and set up a big basket or tub gilled with puzzles, Legos, coloring books, etc. You don't have to buy much... borrow the toys.
Hope it helps.

Re: Children at wedding??
I am having children at my wedding and personally do nor feel that there is anything wrong with it. I love my FH's nieces and nephews and my cousins. I could not imagine the day being right without them there.
But to each his own, many people do not feel that a wedding reception is the place for young children . . .

We will have 4 children at our reception- the flower girl and her sister, the ring bearer and his brother.

I only invited the kids in our bridal party or family. My friends kids were home w/ their babysitter.

Re: Children at wedding??
I agree - I have young cousins whom I love very much, I don't see any reason for them not to be there. They are part of my family, my life, and now my wedding.

Re: Children at wedding??
We are having our FG (8) our Jr. Usher (11) and my 3-year-old First Cousin ONLY. We wanted an adults only reception, and made exceptions for these three because they are my first cousins (my Mom's brothers - one adopted late in life and the other is only in his 30s). FMIL put up a stink about us not inviting children, but whatever.
It's up to you. However, I do think that it's unfair to ask for the children to come be a part of the ceremony and THEN have their parents arrange for a sitter in the middle of the day for the reception. I think you can have JUST BP members at the reception and anyone else who asks just tell them you're not inviting children.

My flower girls are only 2 years old. They will be at the CH and then the will be taken home. Other than that - no children, our choice. So far - no complaints. People are looking at it as if it is a night out for Mom and Dad.

We only had a ringbearer and his mother arranged for the babysitter to come and get him after about a 1/2 hour into the reception. We had no other children invited to the wedding
Most of the parents didn't mind that their kids weren't invited because they got a chance to really enjoy themselves..
Also remember it's a long day for these young kids...

I think they should go to the reception. All of my ring bearers and flower girls are going to mine. I have 2 of each and they are all under 7.

Re: Children at wedding??
well considering that fh has 4 kids and they are all in the bp we will be having children at the wedding..we are setting up a kids table where there will be goody bags filled with stuff for them to play with and i am also asking a friend's sister to bring a friend so that she can keep the kids occupied for the night...all of our guests will be invited with their kids and if they decide to bring them the more the merrier..they'll just have to be responsible for keeping an eye on them..i personally wouldn't want to bring my kids with me but hey at least they have the option!!

Re: Children at wedding??
I am having children at our wedding. My family is really close and I couldn't see doing it without everyone (cousins, nieces and nephews). However I am not inviting other guest children (children of friends) .... just family I am going to get some coloring books and dvd's and bring the portable dvd player to put them in the bridal suite if they get board. But at previous parties they have been the life of the party....dancing all night!!
