Thats a tough call. I didn't want children at the wedding either, but I couldn't go not inviting my first cousins. That is what we set our limit at.

Re: children at wedding???
Thats a really hard one. Its not selfish b/c it is really your choice. I personally think if you dont invite the kids the parents probably wont come either in this situation.
Maybe even if you invited the other children they wouldnt come ???
We invited at least 10 couple with younger children and none of them are coming! Only the flower girl and our son will be at the reception

Re: children at wedding???
talk to your hall see if there is a room where you can have kids stay or even the bridal suite and get a baby sitter so the parents can check in on the kids through out the evening. You do not have to invite FHS cousins. But if you decide to tell them you are having a sitter that your cousins are paying ofr and if they want their children there they have to pay her to. Or just say no way jose put your foot down and say this is my day a hundred times and thats the end of the story.

FH and I had a tremendous fight about this. I didn't want to have to pay per head for these kids. But it turns out FH won and we will have about 15 kids at the wedding

I'm having my brother's children and FH's brother's children. And that's it. No ifs, ands, or butts. My day = my way.

Re: children at wedding???
I am having no children at my wedding except for the one's in the bridal party that is it. I know some people maybe like that is wrong but it is my day and that what I want and so does my FH.

Re: children at wedding???
This is a really tough one. You might say no kids, or only kids in the bridal party, and be able to keep your foot down in the beginning, but everything changes once the invites go out--even to people who knew the policy before. You'd think people would like to go out, drink and have a good time and not have to deal with their kids, but that's not always the case. And you can't predict who will get upset and who won't--many times you're surprised by the things that bother some people and not others, especially family. I suggest that you send out the invites not including children, but be prepared to have to make exceptions. It may turn out that only one couple really wants to bring their 2 kids, and if having the two kids their is the worst thing that happens at your wedding, then everything worked out fine!

Re: children at wedding???
The only kids we're having at our wedding are my first cousins from CA and TX (three kids, ages something like 13, 12, 9). The only reason that I'm having them is because they (and their parents) are coming from so far away.
However, I'm not inviting any other children. Just because I made an exception doesn't mean that I want to have a wedding overrun with kids.

Re: children at wedding???
You have a few options here:
i do not want any kids at our wedding, and it's 4 hours away. My mother explained the whole kids thing this way:
Everyone else got to have their own wedding the way they wanted, and you deserve the same thing. It doesn't matter what anyone else did, and it isn't selfish if you don't want them there.
Explain to your guests that it is an adult reception and you have a very trustworthy person, (make sure they are!) who can watch their kids in your home, or theirs, whichever.
OR
You could hire a magician or someone to entertain the kids in the cocktail room during the reception. Yes, that's big cost for you, but feel it out and decide from there.
I was nervous that my guests would be upset that their kids aren't welcome, but they were the opposite, glad to get a weekend away for a change. The singles are the pains in the butt....
Good Luck!

I am the odd one out on this conversation every time. My feeling is if you are inviting family, kids are a part of the family, so you invite them as well.
But I am usually the only person who argues that on this board, so you can just ignore me.

Re: children at wedding???
I was trying to remember what I did and as it turns out I invited all with kids and some chose to bring them and some chose to leave them home. The ones that were old enough to behave were there and they were behaved. I let the parents choose, but let them understand that they were in charge of their kids. Their choice..it worked out very well.
ETS: The kids sat with their parents and I let them know that ahead. There was no kids table.

We totally agree with this, actually I never even heard of NO KIDS at weddings (I always grew up going to weddings) Until I got engaged and came to this board nearly 3 years ago!

Re: children at wedding???
We are only having the kids in the bridal party and their siblings plus one child, whose parents are traveling from another country to attend the wedding and don't have anyone to leave her with.
