Children in wedding...

Children in wedding...

I have four nieces (ages 6, 6, 4 and 2) and one nephew (age 7). I would like for ALL of them to be in my wedding.

Is there a 'limit' to the number of children? Typically its one flower girl & one ring bearer. What can I have the others do? Should I make them ALL flower girls? Have all of them carry baskets? Its an odd number so how would I have them walk down the aisle? Two girls, two girls and boy? Or girl & boy last with two girls then one girl on her own? HELP!

My opinion...

First of all, there is no such thing as a 'limit', because it's YOUR wedding, and you guys can do whatever you want!!! Throw the 'rules' out the window. Weddings are meant for family, and if you are blessed to have those nieces and nephews, and they're old enough and/or mature enough to be in the wedding party, then I think it would be absolutely charming, wonderful, cute-as-hell, to have them ALL walk down together. Or, you could have one boy and girl together (like a mini bride and groom), and then a boy with two girls (one on each side), or all the boys together, and then all the girls. You decide. I had two ring bearers and two flower girls, and it was sooooo cute. You can give all of the girls flowers to throw. Whatever you do, use them all, and I promise that when it's their turn to walk down, all of your guests will 'oooh' and 'aaaah'. It will be soooo cute!!! Good luck.

Walk down the aisle order...

Lauren,
Thanks for the feedback. Thats how I feel to. I know there isn't a 'limit' so to speak, I guess I am just more confused on the order to send them down the aisle.

Here are their ages:

ONLY NEPHEW OLD ENOUGH: Age 7 - he will be my ring bearer.
Then I have his sisters, Age 6 and Age 4

Then my two other neices, Age 6 and Age 2.

I guess I could do my nephew with his two sisters and then the other two together. I think the yougest (2) will cooperate more if she walks with someone. Otherwise she may be scared. Shes a little young but I absolutely HAVE to have her in my wedding. She is my goddaughter and her mom is my MOH.

Any other feedback on the order I can use would be helpful! THANK YOU!!

I guess I

What I am doing

I just posted in your journal on UW. I have a 2 ring bearers (they will have just turned 4 and 7), and my flower girl is going to be 3 1/2. I think the most important thing to remember is that on the actual wedding day if they are scared to walk down, that is fine. You may want to have three walk down together for the youner ones, or pair up the younger ones with an older sibling. My nephew (he'll be 4 by only a few days on my wedding) will probably end up walking down with his Mom (one of my BMs)and that is okay with me.

Also, check out eBay for Flower girl dresses. You will be amazed at the price and selection. There are distributors who sell on the site.

Similiar Situation

We ended up having 7 kids--5 girls and 2 boys-- 3 were our nieces and 4 were our cousins kids(who we are really close to)
I had 2 girls and 1 boy(all 5 years) (ring guy- he knew his older brother was the ring bearer so he asked what he was so he became the ring guy adn gave out silver rings at the reception!!)
2 girls (5 and 8)
and then the 'real' ringbearer and flowergirl (the matched jeremy and I ) and the other girls and ring guy matched the BM's and GM's
I wouldnt have done it any other way--I wouldnt have wanted any of the kids to feel left out-- i was also a flowergirl when I was 5 and it meant the world to me--- everyone thought I was crazy and so did I the night of the rehearsal but the day of the wedding they were amazing and lasted right thru the viennese hour--
do whatever it is that is going to make you happy that day

We included them all

Do what you want to do, you wont be be sorry.

We had 4 flower girls aged 3 to 8. They did a wonderful job and looked beautiful. I had them all wear a white dress (their Moms choice) we made floral wreaths for their heads and they all carried mini boquets. They had so much fun and took their responsibilities very seriously. I am so happy we included them all.

To August2002Bride

Just wanted to share .. my niece, age 4 1/2, and my nephew, age 1 1/2, did a great job at our Sept. wedding. We weren`t really concerned about my niece, because she was so excited and so looking forward to our wedding. She was even making a concious effort in the months prior to practice her manners at church in preparation for the wedding.

But, we did come up with a back up plan for my nephew, just in case. His mom, my sister-in-law and matron of honor, would be going down the aisle right behind the kids, so if something were to go 'wrong,' she could just step up and walk him (or both) down with her.

The rehearsal was great. At first, he didn`t want to go down the aisle with my niece, so she walked down alone, and he went with my sister-in-law. But, on the second run-through, they did walk down the aisle, hand-in-hand! Wedding day, he put up a fuss when they tried to get him to take the pillow .. he wanted no part of it. (Our mistake for not having him practice with it at the rehearsal). But, I told them 'forget the pillow' and off they went, hand-in-hand!! Of course, now that I`ve seen the pictures and the video .. my niece was so silly .. she walked all the way down the aisle with her eyes closed! My nephew had a huge grin on his face as he looked at all the people while being gently tugged along, his jacket falling off his left shoulder. It`s so precious! And they were so well behaved.

Can you believe my nephew made it all the way from the 4:00 ceremony til nearly the end of dinner at the reception??!! We were all amazed! And my niece pretty much danced the entire night away. Of course, there systems were thrown out of whack for a few days after, but what an amazing time we all had!

I wish the same for you!

Children in wedding...Your Choice

I have seen it a many ways. It always looks cute.

My only recommendation would be to have the kids at the ceremony and for pictures then have someone take them home. They often get tired at the reception and that is alot of kids running around.
