How many place settings did you register for? Everyone keeps telling me I should do 12 but I only have 8.

You should do as many as is your entertaining norm and this is quite individual--one pearl I was told was that you might want to register for an extra setting or two. So if you want 8, 9-10, and if you want 12, 13-14. This is in cask of breakage years down the line -- what if they no longer make your pattern, etc? Truth is, with the website www.replacements.com this is becoming more of an obsolete concept -- they have pieces to fit most patterns, but still.

We did 12, I have a big immediate family, so i figured I needed at least enough to be able to have them over for dinner.

I think 12 is good. Think about it. you and Fh. thensay you have 2 kids. That's 4 right there. If you each have set of parents that takes care of 8, not counting siblings and frineds who you may invite. My cousin has a big family and registered for 20. I may register for 16, knowing that 12 won't be enough for holidays. Plu it's always good to have extra!
