Re: china
Yes, I got 10 sets out of 12 for my engagement party- I am registered at Frotunoff's and they had a 1/2 off sale 2 weeks before my engagement party so it cost 78 dollars a place setting so a lot of people bought it. Maybe I will get the other 2 for my shower. Mostly family bought it but one place setting was bought by my good friend.

Did you have your shower yet? I am sure you'll get it. FH grandmother bought us our china.

Re: china
Okay, so I started off with no china. The main reason was the same as yours. It is expensive, and I need so many other things. What I did was put very nice everyday plates on my registry, instead of China. Well, I went to Linens and Things the other day and found really nice everyday plates for $40 for a 32 piece set. So I am going to buy them myself.
Now I have China on my registry, but not expensive ones. It is really up to you, but you don't have to have China.

Re: china
There is less expensive but still formal and nice china. We got our entire set of Noritake china and I love it. A place setting is 69.99 and they have it at Bed Bath and Beyond and they accept the 20% off coupons for it. There are more affordable options out there.
