My sister is strongly advising me not to go crazy on China. When she got married she registered for 12 place settings! I didn't really want China until I went to BB&B and got all excited. I think I'm just going to get Casual China though. Its less money, and not as fancy looking. I feel I'll get more use out of it that way. Are you girls getting china? If so, is it super elegant?

we registered for Noritake casual china, it's nice but not too elegant that you would be afraid to use it.

I am. I figure now is the time to get it if I ever will. It's not something I'd ever buy myself, but it's nice to have. And I can use it when FH and I start hosting holidays.
I registered for Waterford Ballet Icing. It's a new design that recently came out. We registered for 12 settings, and my father bought us 4 for our e-party. We also registered for 8 settings of everyday dinnerware.
i'm getting super elegant china, i love royal dalton, i want something nice for formal things like xmas dinners etc., i figured i could later buy myself a casual china set

Re: China or no China?
I decided to get china since I'm a big entertainer and have visions of formal christmas dinner at my house. I also have a pretty sizable family so i registered for 12 settings - and hope that i will have enough!
I really think it depends how you envision entertaining in the future. we also registered for about 25 wine tumblers at 2.50 each bc we have regular cocktail parties!
take this fun little quiz: http://wedding.weddingchannel.com/advice/registry_quiz1.asp
I love the idea of informal china if you dont plan on pulling out the gold-trimmed stuff often
ps. I also liek the idea of all whites if you do go formal - its a little modern and less fancy

Re: China or no China?
i haven't decided on this yet..
i registered for our e-party, and i think im going to wait until after that to register for china if i do--so i can see what we get for the e-party..
the other option i thought of was doing one of the box sets of china--mikasa makes some and they're not as expensive..

Re: China or no China?
i'm not getting it. although i love the idea, its just not practical for me. i have no where to put it and wont use it that often. i'd rather have my guests buy me more of the things i need on an everyday basis than china. plus if you only get a few settings then i have to worry about buying the rest. i'm also the only daughter so i can always get my moms

Re: China or no China?
FH and I bought nice everyday dishes when we moved in together and he inherited his grandma's China.
So, we have no reason to register for it. But if you want it, go for it. If you have it, you'll use it.

Re: China or no China?
we got the mikasa parchment 8 piece place setting- 42 piece set for $200 on BBB .... so it was VERY cheap but is super nice looking... but with all the additional pieces that go with the set... all my china came to about $600
i would like to use the dishes as my everyday dishes... FH and i have a tendency to use lots of paper plates (prob bc we dont have a dishwasher yet lol), but on those rare occassions, it would be nice to break out the china

Re: China or no China?
We registered for it, only because I felt pressured by the sales lady at BBB. FH wants to take it off. It was never in my thought process to get it. I fell in love with the setting I picked, but I am still unsure if I am going to remove it or not from the registry. Doesn't seem practical to me at the present time, but then I think of the years to come and how I hope to have big family dinners one day. So I don't know, I am on the fence
although I do love the idea of buying 2 settings every year your married!!! I think that is awesome!!! Im just afraid I would get a few years into it and it would get discontinued
ETA: this is a pic of the setting I chose... Its not SUPER fancy, so I thought I could use it for SPECIAL and semi-special occasions (also the salad plate(?) (one in the middle) is not the one that goes with the set, original was broken.
I always said I wasn't going to register for china... I'd rather take the money!
And I was totally anti-opal innocence (no offense to those who registered for it)... it's just such a common pattern to register for...
But! I found a pattern that I love, and it's definitely casual china. Check out the Lenox Simply Fine line. There's a few different patterns - we registered for the Voila pattern.
$99 per 4-piece place setting at BBB and then with a 20% off coupon it's only $80! And they don't have too too many accessories to go crazy over. So it'll be nice to have it, especially since I have hand-me-down Corelle for everyday.
Good luck!

Re: China or no China?
at first fh and i were against getting china bc who knows if we will ever use it...
but now i am leaning towards registering for it bc i know i will never go out and buy myself china but i may want it one day so why not get it now when people will buy it for us...

Re: China or no China?
We registered for fine china only because we running out of things to register for! We both had fully furnished apartments before marriage and so after consolidating alot of our stuff, we didn't need much.
We got rid of our old sheets and towels but still needed more stuff for the registry. So we added fine china. We've married 5 months and twice now I've taken it out and served dinner on it (even if we were having take out)! It makes us feel all fancy!

not registering for china, don't really find in necessary for us, don't think it would get used that often
