We did 12 and I just changed it to 8 because my FH thinks we are insane to think we will ever have a formal sit down with 12 people knowing our friends and family

Re: CHINA PLACE SETTING
Same here FH hates China and to be honest so do I We will not even have a China cabinet to store them and we don't have any friends that would function well at a formal dinner (they'll be looking fo rthe ice shots) the wedding might be the most formal we get

Re: CHINA PLACE SETTING
We did 12 and reason being is....China is supposed to last forever, not like your everyday dishes. So with getting 12, we figured if one or 2 break you now have 10 or so. If you have 8 and one or 2 break, you now have 6. I would honestly get 10 if he thinks 12 is too much :) HTH

Also factor in how much will you cook?.... I come from a very Italian family where my grandma or mom cooked every sunday and we had holidays and parties at the house. We plan on having about 2-3 kids and I hope to cook and have sunday family dinners and holidays one day. If you have a larger party than 12.... go with the plastic and paper dishes!!!

We registered for 12 and that won't even be enough for dinner with my immediate family.

Re: CHINA PLACE SETTING
I am not registering for fine china but I registered for a higher end everyday casual china that I can use for everyday and for formal event....registered for 12. The reason being is that I think registering for two sets of china is a lot to ask for, from us, because we don't live together so we need like everything and anything for our house and I want to make sure that we get everything we need before we get the fine china that we will probably never use.

Re: CHINA PLACE SETTING
well we didn't register for any china because we inherited TWO sets of china - but for informal dinner sets we registered for 12 of those as well - we always like to have people over and be prepared!
