chinese wedding?

Maybe you ladies can help me. A friend of mine is getting married in a few months. The bride and groom are both from china. They said it will be a traditional chinese wedding but I have no idea what that means. I have never been to one before. Do I just dress like I would for a regular wedding or are there any rules I need to know about?? I feel silly asking but I just want to make sure

Red is the color of the bride, DO NOT wear red. It's almost equivalent to wearing white to an American wedding.
There will probably be a tea ceremony followed by a a banquet, meaning there will be food served on the table and it's shared.
If you are married, you may give a red envelope as a gift but she probably doesnt expect you to. So anything is fine.
HTH. FM me if you have questions.

Like Lucamon stated don't wear red to the wedding. Any other color should be fine. You can dress like you would to a regular wedding. Most of the time I just wear a simple semi formal dress.

I guess when they say traditional Chinese wedding banquet, it means that it will be held in a Chinese restaurant, so for the food, there will prob be 7-10 courses of food, but its served family style, so don't worry about over eatting!

You're Welcome! If you have any more questions feel free to FM me. Oh, also, many of the banquets will have the guests take pictures with the bride and groom before the food gets served, so you don't have to worry if you are a little bit late.

also like another poster said pace yourself. there were about 13 dishes the last time. also the wedding started at 6 pm, but we didn't eat till at least 8:30. so eat a little bit before. also i you don't know how to use chopsticks, try to learn or don't use them.

Re: chinese wedding?

I have only been to one but there was tea ceremony which was pretty interesting to watch. The bride wore red. And the food was served family style.

As for a dress -- I wore an a-line strapless j.crew dress if that helps at all.

I am not sure about music -- the one I went to the bride was Spanish and the Groom was chinese. So she wore white to church where mass was said in Spanish. And the reception was all Chinese traditions EXCEPT it was a spanish band.

It was definatley not your typical wedding and was a lot of fun!

i would say not to wear red because shes probably going to wear a traditional red chinese dress.. dont dress up too much or dress too down.. some people have a traditional casual wedding but most people dont.. go with a simple dress nothing too dressy, too casual or red..

I know WOW real good to know for future reference, i dont wear red alot but i would hate to do that bc i would do it without knowing. The last thing i'd want to do is insult someone at their wedding

Re: chinese wedding?

i usually just wear whatever i wear to non-Chinese weddings. And the red thing kind of depends on how traditional the couple is. I've worn red to Chinese weddings of friends born in the US who are not traditional at all. you can always ask your friend to see if what you plan on wearing is okay.
