Choosing a photographer

What ultimately made you end up going with the photographer you did? I have about 10 photographers, many of whom I love, many of whom I only like (but those are, of course, the cheaper ones) but overall their prices and packages are very similar and not really enough to sway a decision. I'm curious if it really does come down to personality or if there was something specific that swayed you towards a specific person.

We clicked with our photographer...and her pictures were so romantic and natural. LIke she was just following around her clients. Not posed at all. I didnt care how much she costed, I needed her!

Who did you go with? It would be great to get a testimonial like that if it happens to be someone I'm looking at!

I also just clicked with ours. We booked silverfox and I explained I didn't want traditional poses and wanted fun romantic pictues and I had seen a lot of that style from them. I just felt really good about them from walking in their office.

They are on my list!! I actually just got an e-mail from them about their photo booth information and so far they seem to have the best option in that regard

Re: Choosing a photographer

I think you really have to meet with them and see how you guys get along. We met with three photographers, we loved all their work, but when we met with the photographer we booked, halfway through the meeting we both gave each other the 'this is it' look. Sounds silly, but you'll know.

Choosing a photographer

I clicked with Jess from Capture the Moment. After we left our initial meeting with her my FH turned around to ask me what I thought, then said nevermind I can see it on your face, let's book her. It also helped reading so many happy/satisfied reviews. I think reviews are what turned us away from many other photographers we initially met with and liked.

Choosing a photographer

I looked at the website for Capture the Moment before meeting with the owner Jessica...I cried hysterically looking at pictures and video trailers that I knew I had to make the appointment...she was just so awesome and it made me feel at ease we booked the night of our first appointment! It really is who you click with! =)

We went with Tessie Reveliotis Photography. She is on the knot (and just so happens to be my MOH's neighbor) I have some of our engagement pics in an album!

Choosing a photographer

Did anyone have to 'meet' with their photographer at first over the phone? We're both in Rhode Island and I'm not sure when we'll be able to make it back to Long Island but I want to make sure to start the process of looking sooner rather than later.

Anyone who did this -- were you able to get a 'feel' for them over the phone? Or was it better once you met them in person (if you did)?

YES! I spoke with three and silverfox and the girl at Silverfox just put me so at ease.
With that being said, I just hired capture the moment for video and I didn't know about them then so I would have had a very hard decision as I love both of them. So now I get them both :)
Jessica at capture the moment makes you feel like you know her forever and same with Courtney at Silverfox.

Why don't you schedule Skype or Facetime meetings? That way you don't have to waste time once back in NYC weeding out photographers/vendors and you can just spend time meeting with the one(s) you like. I think its so important to love the personality of your photographer and you want to use your time in NY as wisely as possible!

Choosing a photographer

We met with our photography company first (the owners wife who does the album design) and fell in love with the work and albums. We then made an appointment to meet the actual photographer. I think it'd be fine to talk on the phone or Skype. Def check out florio from lighthouse :)

Choosing a photographer

We are using Twelfth Night Photography and I just got my engagement pictures back and couldn't be happier! I have only seen a couple other people use them and i loved their work so I made an appointment. They were the only company i met with and we clicked with them and their prices were great. We are so happy with our decision.

That's the plan!!! I just feel like sometimes Skype is awkward enough with people you do know, I'm afraid it might be awkward 'meeting' someone and then we won't get a real vibe on their personality. But we will see how it goes! :)

I contacted Twelfth Night but haven't heard back from them yet :( They were one of the choices our best friends were deciding between, but ultimately they didn't end up going with them. I do love what I've seen of their work though and wish they would get back to me with prices

Choosing a photographer

I know how hard it is to narrow down! We have had that issue with every vendor so far. There are just so many that it is hard to pick and choose. We are also out of the area so had to be very selective with who we met with. Think of it like your FH... There are tons of other guys out there, but you are happy with him so you've stopped looking! Choose photographers to meet with based on their work, reviews, and your gut feeling. Once you find someone you like on paper and in person and you trust that they'll make your day special, book them and don't look back!!!
And sometimes talking on the phone can help. I talked to one photographer on the phone and he was condescending and braggy. Immediate reject!
We fell in love with Monica from Lighthouse. Definitely connected with her and felt comfortable- which is hard because I'm always super shy!
