choosing the RH - how long can i wait??? UPDATE

Hey guys, I'm getting really anxious about choosing the reception hall. I'm off my feet because of foot surgery and I won't be able to walk again until February. What do you think? Will that be too late to start looking for RH's for our July 09 wedding???

ETA: Update: My mobility on crutches is getting much better so we're going to look at RH's this Sunday!!! We have appointments to see 5 places and I'm hopeful that I can have my date and the RH of my dreams! Thanks for all the reassurances! I'm feeling much better now!!

You should be fine. If you are feeling nervous, maybe call the reception halls you are deciding between to find out if the date you want is still available until you are on your feet again.

so far, i waited too long for one and the date is taken i'm sure i'll be able to secure something great though!!! i hope! lol

It depaends. If you have a place in mind and a specific date call the hall and explain to them the situation, in some cases they will hold the date for you and extend to you a call if someone is interested in booking your date.

My FH and I knew we wanted to have our wedding at Leonards and I had to have my 9/12/09 wedding, so we went and look at the Hall in late October and they allowed us to hold the date until the begining of January without a deposit. Since October every Saturday night in September booked at our hall, so I was happy I didn't wait long.

IMO you will be able to get something for your date as long as you are flexable.

Don't stress it and remember there are so many brides who plan their wedding in under a year and still get a date and place they love so don't worry

I looked up 10000000 places online and then narrowed it down to the ones I wanted to go see. Since you have to be off your feet its the perfect opportunity to do that! Once you've narrowed them down it can't hurt to call and explain the situation.

I really think you should try and book a place before valentines day comes rollin around since tonsssssss of 09 gurls will be engaged on this day and then you'll be competing with them for a hall and date

Not at all. SOme people book early, others wait a while.

I havent booked anything yet. I rushed into it when I booked the first place and we cancelled...end of story, Im out of some money but I am taking my time now.

I would try to call some places and tell them you had surgery and wont be able to come in but that you are interested int he hall and see if they can put the date you want on hold untill you can come in a see it. Vday is a big day for engagements so I would try to get int here before the 14th otherwise things will be crazy. Im sure there will be plenty of places with avaliblity for 09 it just might not be you first choice in date. Good luck

I got engaged in September and I waited until I finished my chemo treatments at the beginning of this month to start calling places. I used the time to narrow down what I did and didn't want. So far I haven't run into any problems with RH's. The only problem I had was the date we orginally wanted for our wedding is a Holy Day of Obligation in the Catholic church and we couldn't get the mass time we wanted.

i was anxious about it bc it's our anniversary and it's summer (peak season), so i booked asap. if you're willing to be a little flexible, i don't think waiting is a big deal. i do agree that you should be careful waiting until after V-day if you have something specific in mind.

I think its a good idea to narrow down your options and then call and ask the RH what they think. I thought I could sit back for awhile, but we lost our first pick band and almost lost our RH for our June wedding. I don't have any flexibility on dates (since we're getting married btwn graduation and residency) so I kinda freaked out. Most vendors will tell you if they think you have time or not - and if they pressure you/freak you out you probably don't want to work with them anyway!

We had a pretty good idea of what place we wanted...we went to see it first and they only had 3 saturday nights left in summer '09. When I called back a week later they only had 2 nights left. The day I booked even had someone 'penciled in' for it, but since they hadn't left a deposit we got the date. I would be very careful if there is a place you really want because summer dates, and esp. saturday nights, book up fast. Also I have yet to talk to a RH that would save a date for someone without a monetary deposit. I hope you start feeling better soon!

p.s. this site does make people nervous about dates and things, including me, so don't let it freak you out!!

You might want to start looking bc i know a girl who was looking at june/july 09 and she was running into problems with places being booked.

Where are you looking? Do you have a specific date?
